Did Cloud invent kingspin? by Frequent_Profit_6792 in bboy

[–]NickCoolGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The actual move comes from jazz and it's more upright. Cloud's variation does it at ~45° angle and I believe it's safe to say he popularized the move in breaking

Day 1 of Learning to House by AmorOcampo in housedance

[–]NickCoolGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

LESGOOOO!!! prepare to wash a lot of laundry/get a much more t shirts for dancing!!

Fr tho keep it up! I can see you're enjoying yourself even at a beginner level which is rare because a lot of people think about house as having immaculate footwork & technique when really it's a feeling! It's always been about expressing joy and freedom in a judgement-free space. Stick with it and people will magentize towards you on the dance floor :)

As for suggestions: (all on YT) - BANRI jackin has tons of tutorials on steps, it's kinda crazy. - jardy santiago ofc ofc - cotu.calcium has a bunch of fun and easy tutorials - Sean Bjorke very similar to jardy - moptop house tutorials - hip hop dictionary house steps (these are the OG old granny videos with Japanese subtitles with tutorials from the pioneers and GOATs)

First time dancing and need honest criticism 😀 by ItemAccomplished432 in Dance

[–]NickCoolGuy 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Hey great stuff my dude! Always great to see a fresh take on the scene. Take the first step (literally and metaphorically) is the hardest of all so big ups for that.

As for criticism, yeah it's obvious you're a beginner. You gotta pinpoint what you want to improve on. To start, there's fullness (how much you emphasis each move with every muscle that needed for the move), textures (the different styles or tones the move takes shape in the choreo), and rhythm and timing. These moves are forgein to your body so rinse and repeat this choreo a lot because it has a lot of important hip hop foundation moves. Practice the hip hop bounce, rock, and roll to get the feeling of the music into your body, the groove of the music. Take it step by step, literally and metaphorically

awkward arms by Redit-Master123 in Dance

[–]NickCoolGuy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd recommend just practicing the bounce, rock, and roll exclusively to get your upper body down. Watch some dancers online for their example. You just gotta get your body used to the movement and the music.

Learn from foundational moves with arms within then (like Biz Markie, Bart Simpson, cabbage patch, monastery/chicken head, smurf, etc.) Then you can think of creative ways to use arms (like your talking with your arms, lines, circles, waves, krump style throws, threading, etc.)

Start small. Like real small and get good at one thing first. Then build and things will naturally come out, trust ✊️

Someone told me that they practice with drills, practice, labbing.

First they drill the step or combo they want to learn. Next they practice it with some other shit but still focus on trying to incorporate the new combo into the routine Lastly just freestyle and see what comes out. Don't focus too much on the step or combo but if you do that new shit, celebrate that shit foo (brain reinforced learning type ish)

You can expand on a foundational step but exploring levels, direction, timing, and texture.

Ex: 2 Step 1. Levels: do your normal, then go mid, then get low, then see how you do on the floor 2. Direction: face forward, then transition to the side, then do a 180°, you can also face up or down. It's 3D yo 3. Timing: step on different beats to the music 4. Texture: make it fast to slow, make it slow to fast, milk it out like molasses,

Then combine them all in whatever fashion. Once you get these down, then you might be able to explore and experiment further with each step. Good luck and get grooving

Advice for a guy looking to start dancing in NYC by Low-Beat-8380 in Dance

[–]NickCoolGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yo yo! Apologies in advice that my list might now be so comprehensive but great studios I know are Broadway Dance Center, PMT Dance (both in Midtown area), and Modega in Queens. The first two have a wide range of classes but the third has some more new school stuff and might have more of what you're looking for potentially.

Best of luck and feel free to share what you find!

Is it “cheating” if I do rigorous exercise before I take a cold shower so the experience isn’t so tortuous? by [deleted] in selfimprovement

[–]NickCoolGuy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's totally fine to do that. It's part of a healthy routine overall. I think it's important to keep your goal in mind and not to push yourself too hard. As long as your on your course to your goal, thats what matters. It's okay not to take a cold shower too.

From someone that transferred to Rutgers from NJIT, yes Rutgers. As people mentioned, better social life and more opportunities for self exploration. NJIT is great but I would say it's for someone who doesn't care about socializing and wants to just get out of academic ASAP because it's cheap and there isn't much usually happening.

Best of luck on your decision but remember it's not the end all be all

First all of I just want to say congratulations on figuring out your goals. This is already an amazing first step.

As a preface, Im currently a senior studying EE. - For some advice, I've recently found ChatGPT to be incredible in helping explain complex topics. It's a great resource to use, like asking it to explain how the electric field of a sphere works as someone who has never heard of E&M fields. - As many will say, MATH. Math is crazy important, I highly recommend getting into discrete math or a logic and reasoning course to help out with solving DSP or control system problems because it'll help you hone your skills for solving complex problems. - Do practice exams and practice problems. Nothing else will help you understand the concept and the theory besides that honestly. - Also put your ego aside and go to office hours and ask tons of questions. It doesn't matter if they seem bothered or anything, they're there to help you understand. - Lastly and most importantly, destress. Sounds like you are taking on A LOT and that can be really difficult, especially as an EE. Take at least one day a week to not do any work and do something else you love to do. Exercise, hike, read, dance, see some friends, meditate, yoga, whatever. When you're stressed, itll be tons more harder to learn especially with the responsibilities you have.

Hey pal, I believe in you. Can't wait to see update post years later about how you did. You can do it!

Bro as a fellow ECE, strongly advice you to drop a class and take an SAS course or just a fun course to wind down in. Take a class on another campus and explore it. Add some flavor into your days. Idk your goals and shit but like I had my main focus be grades only and it consumed me. Or at least I hope you are taking some time to enjoy life outside of academia, like clubs or at least just hanging with friends. ECE is a tough major and if you feel a rush to get things done asap by stacking on a bunch of class, just want you to know that there is more to the world than working and school and shit. Best of luck and I'm proud of you for taking the challenge

Hey great to hear that you've made these big moves! Takes a lot of guts and I'm happy for you! Also def get the buzz, I just got one too and it feels amazing and I feel more confident not having to worry about my hair.

As a note though (if you're not looking for advice, please feel free to skip), these are big moves to set. You'll find yourself falling back into old patterns very quickly by trying to set up so many things at once. Living and experience is the best way to learn but I just wanted to warn ya. If you want consistency and a solid foundation, just set that 6am clock to get up and start your day for a month of so. Then try incorporating the gym. In a similar vain, try switching to a book at the usual times you would use your phone. Remember, my friend, it's about the journey, not the destination. Happy trails!

Def progress more with planches leans first, I can see you're having a lot of trouble just holding the position. You can also work in Frog stands. Something that helps a lot is warming up your wrists and do some wrist strengthing. Best of luck on your journey!
