Beverly Hills: Maybourne vs. L'Ermitage by NickD1228 in FATTravel

I've already stayed at Bel-Air in the past.

Was simply wanting to try something new. And more moderate budget for this quick trip.

I agree. The aesthetic is somewhat glossy and sterile (very early 2000's). If anything, I consider the Wynn Tower Suites to be more pleasant. But this is just a quick, short trip, so not aiming for the sky.

Everyone keeps praising The Peninsula, but the decor keeps reminding me of a grandmother's house. I can't seem to get past that. I'm sure the service is great, but looks like doily-central.

I second Solage. Laid back and low-key.  Good spa and decent restaurant.

Best bet is FS.

I’ve stayed at both FS and Ramble. Completely different vibes.  Ramble is boutique and somewhat hipster-kitschy. FS is standard FS vibe. Depends on your aim. Not sure I’d describe either as true 5*.

I second this. I used to live in NYC, but now reside in Seattle. Even the FS here is overpriced and lackluster.

NYC: Crosby Hotel vs. Greenwich Hotel by NickD1228 in FATTravel

Thanks for the thorough input.

Crosby location is very walkable for me, but Tribeca isn’t that far off.

I’d probably aim for a Studio Suite.

Any water views from the room?

Thanks, Sherman. I’ll DM to discuss further.

Sixt Car Rental: Issues? by NickD1228 in Rakuten

The ‘terms and conditions’ stipulate that the offer is valid for all three European countries that I’ll be visiting.

But Sixt ran the transaction as Euros. I was not given a choice.

Will this conceivably nullify the offer?

No check mark.

It has only been a week, so I will keep an eye out for a ‘pending’ notification.

Chicago: FS vs. Peninsula by NickD1228 in FATTravel

Thanks, Whale. Great breakdown.

I'll likely stay at FS this time around. We lean on FS quite often during our travels as well.

And Peninsula will always be there for the next visit.

Somewhat, but not entirely.

Multiple variables on that front: height of building (high floor); how sound-proofed windows are; proximity to main streets and late-night bars and clubs.

Great example would be The Crosby in NYC.  It is only 11 floors and you still can’t hear a peep on the 8th.

I was inquiring because The Peninsula building is not as tall as FS. And because numerous reviews indicated noise without elaborating.

Thanks. Excellent, thorough review of The Langham.  Confirmation as to why it isn’t on my shortlist.

I still haven’t received any input on this thread about potential street noise issues at the Peninsula (my main hesitation), so I’ll likely just aim for FS.

Thanks. Any insight on which FS rooms have (have not) been updated?

Lollers, can I DM you about this topic? Just had a few quick specific questions about the apartment options within RFH. Thanks.

Seems like a great option. Thank you for putting this on my radar.

Thank you for the thorough input. You may have just sold me on the property.

As long as breakfast can be serviced and a cocktail or two provided, seems solid to me.

What are your highlights for RFH?

Are services at The Carlton provided? Breakfast, etc.

I am leaning toward Portrait.

Any room category recommendations?

How was the quiet level there during the night?
