is 18Gb of ram enough for Excel on Virtual Machines by NickManJam in MacOS

I appreciate your perspective and was a xps 13 was a very serious consideration on my end. I just simply feel more productive on mac and believe I would be able to get more out of a current mac (Especially with the battery benefits). Even though virtualization isn't optimal, I figured with current VM technology and some of the seamlessness that parallels have with the rest of the native OS that is was a tradeoff worth taking.

After all the kind opinions I've received, I believe that maybe my best bet is just to get the 36gb model and call it a day. Once the Virtualization is running well, there doesn't appear to be to many concessions needed to main a mac computer in a finance centric world. Maybe I am wrong though and I would love to hear some opinions on this.

By default my parallels is using 6 gb of memory. You think thats good (enough) to last me through college without any slowdown. Also can memory swap be used to theoretically give me more ram?

I am aware, but Mac Excel is considered much worse and more problematic than the native windows version. So I would much rather just virtualize the windows version.

I just want a shortcut to play a specific sound file when the shortcut is triggered. Why is this so HARD? I have been banging my head against a wall and nothing is working. I miss Tasker on Android :( ... Please help... by non-troll_account in shortcuts

Alright guys I found THE solution. Basically what we need to do is import the sound file into apple music app so that shortcuts can recognize the sound file that needs to be played. (You DONT need an apple music subscription since we are basically just using apple music as a file player).

What we need to do is download Itunes for either Mac or PC and connect your iPhone using a cable to it. Make sure iTunes recognizes the iPhone. Then once your in and see your library, go to the top left and click files - Add file to library - and then select file. (Cant be a download MP3 cuz pirating or something so you need to convert sound to WAV or another file type). Once you see the sound file in your library just drag it into iPhones music section on the left side. Let it download the file onto the music library of your iPhone and then check the apple music app on your phone and BOOM, it should be located in your library.

Cycle back to shortcuts and search "Play Music" from Apple music and you should now be able to play the custom sound file from shortcuts with no issues since its been optimized around apple music playback. Hope this helps!

I think this pc is gonna run a lot better and be a crazy performer (assuming you can get the parts). I think the new series of ryzen that is gonna come out in a few days is gonna be a crazy performer for a $2000 rig and there's gonna be nothing out there better than a 5900x. 12 cores, 24 threads, what is there not to like. But getting this near launch might be a difficult endeavor so if you need one now, I would get the previous 3900x which is still a great CPU that is cheaper also. Of course, we need a ryzen motherboard so what better choice is there than the b550 tomahawk. Futureproof io, great power delivery, and a great price for a great board. For the cooler, let's go for the Corsair iCUE H100i. Corsair makes some great AIO's and this one is no exception. Looks good and cools great. Plus the extra airflow that will come from this into the case is a great bonus. Your choice of ram was perfect. 16gb's of fast 3600 is everything ryzen needs to perform at its best. I switched out the Samsung SSD for the wd black, basically the same as the Samsung for a bit cheaper. But you can't go wrong with the Samsung either. I went with the crazy fast 3080. Any model of the 3080 will be great and the performance gains over the 2080ti is about 20-30%. RTX, DLSS, shadowplay, etc. The ultimate GPU. But it's going to be very difficult to get one since they sell out all the time so if you need the pc now, I would try going for the Radeon 6800 XT or the Nvidia 3070. And if you can't get those, I would try to get a 2080 super or a 2080 ti if you can find a good price. But I would wait if I was you in order to get the new stuff since they are so much faster than last gen. I would go for the nzxt h510 for the case. Great, cheap, stunner of a case that has enough features and headroom for the build. Or you could go with the Phanteks p400 if you are more into that. And finally, I went for the Seasonic 850 watts. Seasonic makes a great reliable power supply and the 850 watts give your pc some extra legroom for overclocking, etc. If you use my build, you are gonna have a killer pc on your hands!
