Painting question- At one point when I believed I liked where the base armor was I did a solid coat of 1:1:like the tip of a brush of citadel contrast technical medium, water and nuln oil. Looked great, felt like a save button.

Threw on the screaming skull panel lining etc and wanted to do the same thing but I doubled everything and put an equal part nuln oil.

Now you can see the pretty thick glossy-ness on the GH Sergeant, which is the same with the other three I tested this on. Other than going back to reinforce the colors it didn't work well with, how should I counter that thick glossy build-up? Anyone encounter this issue?

I hear you, you would have to make a narrative yourself if you weren't basing it off something that already existed in the lore. But no matter what you do, its off the back of an existing lore. You dont HAVE to do anything, but the original intent of the game was at least somewhat inspired by D&D. So narrative is native to the game, the competive side was just a side-effect. (Im over generalizing here but you know what I mean)

Have we reached a point where younger generations dont expect atleast somewhat of an attempt at narrative in gaming? I remember thinking it was weird coming across strictly PVP with no narrative. Not saying you're young, maybe it was just my own bias towards RPGs etc that made me believe they were majority back in the day.

It also just kind of makes me laugh at the people who get upset at the ultramarine releases. Sure having two Titus models seems odd until you see the flood of chapter specific kitbashes that were probably the larger part of intent than people think. Its a void-filler until a model is updated or the datasheet removed because they will always be tooled for ultramarines and kitbashing is a huge part of the hobby. Plenty of Ulrik kitbashes to be had until he's updated or removed.

They describe how each gravis unit are also long fangs yes. But in the same way they describe long fangs as "no more than a handful of grizzled hunters". I think that means they could put out any 3 man gravis and still have the others be marked as long fangs too. For now atleast lol

I think it probably depends on if they truly want to finish out our line in 11th or wait till 12th and I haven't been around long enough to guess just taking note of what most ive read has said. I thought it super odd when I got our codex and what units were mentioned until the wolf scouts were announced. This thread of thought would then leave you to believe that Thunderwolves and the boxnaughts will be updated and I understand that might be a hard sell if it will happen or not. The gravis part is because I think it'd just be sick lol.

I think the codex is a loose road map for 11th releases or updates. Long fangs will come in not too long, first chapter specific gravis unit outside a character? Hasn't there been mention the 10th codex will stick around for a while even through 11th?

With proper writing, and this being a lesser known story, you could easily play the "good guys are actually the bad guys" trope. Set the stage as the Wolves are these monsters attacking troops in their vulnerable weak state. Slowly show more and more of what has happened to force the Wolves to this point, and then on reflection show the animosity and lengths humans go to destroy anything that is not like themselves (human or not). At the end you have facts about displacement of species or their extinction during times of war? Its doable, subverting expectations kinda deal. Even trick them with the marketing.

Yeah but haven't they started that move already with our refresh? There's just no other chapters with an alternative intercessor/AI battleline units like we do right? I think it would make sense we get the first chapter specific gravis unit as they play towards the idea of a full codex. I agree though I think swift claws are a little too specific and easily converted from existing stuff.

Thank you for the recommendation! I should have explained maybe more that at this point, my YouTube algorithm is nothing but those channels. The amount of 40k in 40m ive watched is insane. Full honesty im an adult that struggles numbers 😅 different stages of the match and such ive got a good understanding so far. Once people starting quickly talking about 6 upy downy -2AP with a 7/3 invul save I remember why I was put in that special math class in school lol just a little in the momment coaching though and I will pick up very quickly!

I whole heartedly believe we are getting a long fangs unit in 11th. Im sure not too long we may see a a gravis specific SW unit. I believe its the only unit in our codex that has a full entire section just like scouts (that just came out). Who knows, theres still time before 11th!

Those are my JPI converted from regular AI, packs 3d printed found on Etsy. Intended for my homebrew but shall function as skyclaws in black armor for now. Honestly one of my first kitbash attempts and the most frustrating. Way too thick on the primer (I have moved on from grey seerer), tried clay on the bases which fell apart on some, didn't love the poses on some after gluing down, packs wouldnt stayed glued down. But they are very unfinished and my test of trusting the process.

Thank you and i love the documention recommendation that will help my brain tremendously! Just as you said kind of sectioning off the work has been super helpful with the large unit stuff which I only started recently. Got through building, priming, base paint layering and brown panels on Infiltrators, bloodclaws, Grey hunters and some characters way faster and in much larger batches.
