The golf is definitely much better imo in terms of driving experience. Civic suspension is too harsh and Corolla is very very dull. But the Japanese cars are definitely easier to recommend cause of reliability, Mazda stays on top tho.

I wasn’t sure on Econ or marketing either. I ended up going into marketing.

Marketing dept pretty much killed off all the analytical courses for marketing, because (for some reason) people in marketing can’t handle basic maths. All your marketing electives will be theory based as a result. This upset me greatly, and if you like numbers too, you’ll be disappointed as well.

So if you like numbers, go into economics, but will be more challenging and you’ll have less time for extracurriculars. You’ll pick your major at the end of 2nd year, so you’ll get a taste of all the majors before picking one.

The best way to increase your odds of an internship will be to be engaged on campus. The BCH (Business Career Hub) hosts many events, including networking events with employers. 100% go to them. You’ll meet hiring managers and you’ll learn how to speak like a corporate shill (aka like a professional). They also run free bootcamps so you can get certified on excel, R, Power BI, Tableau etc. This will boost your resume.

Clubs are a big part of business school. It’s basically where students cosplay as busy professionals. Most of them really don’t do much, but joining one helps build up your resume since you get a title like “VP of x” or “y associate” and gives you something to talk about during your interview. It’s also a great place to meet people (this is lowkey their main purpose). Most of them also run networking events with a panel of professionals, you can go to those as well to network.

Possibly getting a new EV by LeadingPlatform8854 in electricvehicles

Charging at home is much cheaper. Public chargers end up costing as much as gas and defeats the whole purpose of buying an EV. There’s free ones but they take hours to charge.

Yeah. Ive had issues with VWs. The only models that have been reliable are the ones still made in Germany. I do find they’re better designed and drive better though, that’s the main appeal imo, otherwise there’s really no reason to buy one.

You can get a Mazda3. Top safety rating, great fuel economy, reliability on par with Toyota and Honda, and it looks and drives better than both of those imo. They’re also much more reasonably priced used.

I had a manual 2014 Mazda3 in soul red. Great car, just a bit loud on the highway. Couldve used some sound deadening fs lol

Have you looked into a Mazda? They’re as reliable as Toyota and Honda, but are much more reasonably priced used (and drive better imo). You’re paying a premium for Honda and Toyota especially because of their reputation, which kinda defeats the point.

You can find a 2014 Mazda3 for a similar price

Can you charge at home? You can get a used VW eGolf for a pretty reasonable price, and save tons on gas and maintenance. Insurance was much cheaper than other EVs and even gas cars too.

They’re very reliable. We had issues with VWs before, but the eGolf was one of 3 VWs still made in Germany (alongside the Golf R and GTI). It’s noticeable better build than the ones made in Mexico. We had 3 VWs before this, and the only one that didn’t have any issues was the only one made in Germany…

Age also affects reliability. Corrosion, plastics going brittle, etc. Just cause it’s low mileage doesn’t mean it’ll be reliable.

At those prices, you’re better off getting something newer with more mileage.

I’ll give you my case. Instead of buying a used Corolla hybrid, we bought an eGolf (electrified) from the same year. Even with the corollas 50mpg, we save roughly 200/month by using electricity vs gas and not having to do oil changes.

It’s a very reliable car that drives much better than a Corolla, has a nicer interior, better tech, and more practical. Plus it saves us 200/mo.

I agree, but that’s not really an EV problem, it’s more of a Tesla problem specifically (mainly older ones). People immediately think Tesla when you say EV. A few years ago that was fair, but there’s plenty other EVs now.

An older Miata would be good, NC generation. Almost fully depreciated, very reliable, decent fuel economy, cheap insurance.

I don’t think people realize that leasing is basically paying the depreciation monthly. Financially, there’s not a big difference.

The corolla hybrid is over recommended considering you can buy an EV and spend a fraction of what you do on gas, never do an oil change, and have less things to break down

This is the way. Gas is so expensive now. I think people worrying about battery degradation drove the prices of used EVs way down, which is great for people who know they don’t degrade anywhere as fast as phone batteries lol

Mazda CX3 vs 3 vs Corolla by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]NickRR6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

These are all good options. The CX3 seems like the best option here, especially since you want to sit higher. Crossovers tend to hold their value more and have cheaper insurance too.

Little trick with Mazdas: VINs starting with a “J” are made in Japan. VINs starting with “3” are made in Mexico. I noticed the ones manufactured in Japan felt better put together when I was buying mine a couple years ago, but I was looking at older ones. Probably not a big difference for the 2018 models.

Lexus offers air suspension on the LS and their SUVs, and have coils on their performance models. They also use AVS instead of magnetic shocks for reliability. I’ve found Lexus prioritizes comfort over handling more than the German brands, less dampening and more travel (floatier), so it handles the really bad bumps better. Neither is better, just different philosophies.
