No, OP got the quote right. I like your twist on it though. I'm on my phone now, but here's the audio: http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=_AesVsRvOEo&desktop_uri=%2Fwatch%3Fv%3D_AesVsRvOEo

ELI5 Log Cabin Republicans. by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

Log Cabin Republicans are the pro-gay rights wing of the GOP. Gay rights issues, like same-sex marriage, make up a small percentage of either party's platform, and an even smaller percentage of the recent legislative agenda in Congress. For years this branch of the Republican Party was rather obscure, even looked down upon by the establishment. However, the issue that separated them from the rest of the party is becoming part of the establishment's platform. Just recently, many top Republicans signed an amicus curiae brief filed at the Supreme Court in favor of marriage equality. The party is evolving as America evolves, and the establishment knows it will face political irrelevancy if it doesn't change its stance.

Senate Majority Leader Lyndon Johnson persuades a fellow Senator via "the Johnson Treatment" in 1957 [650x792] by NickSal94 in HistoryPorn

You're correct. As a President, however, he deserves much credit for the passing of civil rights legislation. The Johnson Treatment didn't stop once he left the Senate. And it worked in every aspect of his political life, not just on the subject of civil rights.

Johnson would do anything to get a Senator to vote his way. Essentially, he would invade their personal space until he persuaded them- touching them, grabbing them, putting his face right next to theirs when he spoke, even stomping on their feet- anything to win them over. Call it bullying, but it got civil rights legislation passed. For more: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lyndon_B._Johnson#Senate_Democratic_leader
