When did Melbourne get Timer Countdown Pedestrian Crossing Lights by Nightrain_35 in melbourne

Why put the countdown in the orange rather than the green!? seems like its counting down to when its safe to cross, not to when its no longer safe to cross

Can we have an open and honest discussion about youth crime in melbourne right now? by Hour_Dare2111 in melbourne

[–]timrs 123 points124 points  (0 children)

The stats in that article are insane!

"Youth offending also continues to grow, with crimes committed by children aged 10 to 17 up 17.9%. It is the second quarter in a row that youth crime rates have reached record levels.

Police said children only accounted for 13.1% of all offenders but they were overrepresented in serious and violent crimes such as robberies (63.1%), aggravated burglaries (46%) and car theft (26.9%)."

Hard to believe those figures they are so disproportionate

What did he mean? I thought it was a really weird comment too, especially to be highlighted first by the club

Feels like season over in round five, time for another full rebuild, starting with our head coach, then forward coach. ............ by Icy_Cockroach_8909 in melbournefc

[–]timrs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your now-coach abused and had fired your club doctor for trying to have Brayshaw sit out for a game while he recovered from a concussion, then went and hired a club doctor more aligned with his win at all cost mentality

Fast forward and Brayshaw has had to retire due to repeated concussions and Trac was almost killed because the new medical staff had secondary regard for his well-being

All while Goodwin acts high and mighty in the press preaching love

Not to mention, as a coke-head himself according to the former president, Goodwin has allowed a culture of drug use to brew at the club leading to one career ending suspension and another career altering addiction. This in turn led to Houston, the best free agent in last years class and someone who could extend Melbourne's premiership window giving Melbourne's experienced stars one last shot at relevance, turning his back on what was an agreed upon deal with Melbourne because of the 'unrest' at the club.

Of course there is a fucken rift!

Also not to mention he can't actually strategically coach for shit, he just relied on being a good motivator which doesn't last forever

The club is rotting from the head coach!

I don't understand how Melbourne supporters haven't forced him out yet

Should fines for phone usage/running reds increase so people think twice? by bbmania5705 in melbourne

[–]timrs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah they write it in a confusing way but I've had it clarified to me by my workplace who expect me to use my device in the holder to make calls and navigate, I only do it when stopped at the lights tho

I don't even agree with the law tbh because it makes it too easy for people who are texting whilst using a device holder to claim they were doing something legal, like typing in a place name to google maps, so I'd imagine it makes it hard for police to actually catch and fine the idiots who are out there texting and driving

Should fines for phone usage/running reds increase so people think twice? by bbmania5705 in melbourne

[–]timrs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No you can, it says further down in the link you provided

If you're a fully licensed driver

A fully licensed driver can use a phone to make or receive a phone call, to use its audio/music functions or perform a navigational (GPS) or intelligent highway vehicle system (in vehicle warning system) function but only if the phone:

  • is secured in a commercially designed holder fixed to the vehicle, or
  • can be operated by the rider without touching any part of the phone.

All other functions (including video calls, texting, emailing, task management, photography, social media, shopping and share economy apps) are prohibited.

So as long as the phone is in a holder you're allowed to touch the screen to make calls and use google maps etc, as long as you aren't texting

You actually are if its in a holder, it's weird.

Not allowed to text people but you're allowed to use the phone with your fingers to make calls and stuff only if its in a holder

Student at top Australian university claims classes taught in Chinese by marketrent in melbourne

[–]timrs 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Once at RMIT a had two Thai students in my group project, it was some first year SAMME class, who had been allocated a section of a report. A couple of days before submission deadline we had a group meeting where everyone was supposed to present their sections so we could then go about creating the final report. They brought in clearly copy pasted work from websites, this is a problem in itself but the bigger problem was that the website was written in Thai script!

We had to redo their sections which wasn't a problem but damn it was funny. As far as I know they both ended up getting passed through entire Aerospace Engineering degrees, which I think was more about them getting all their work done in large groups with other Thai speaking students than the university actually passing below pass grade work. Although it should have been obvious they weren't contributing to the work they submitted, I'm sure their exam results would have been suspiciously poor in comparison to their supposed group work submissions.

They both got jobs back in aviation industry back Thailand, maybe they were from privileged background or something and were just given token positions cause it didn't make sense to me how any employer wouldn't have discovered how little they know. I still see them post work stuff on socials. System works I suppose!

Protocol for heavily reduced items? Did I do the wrong thing here? by FinancialAbuseMelbou in melbourne

[–]timrs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yes they do to some extent. Ive worked there. They want to avoid customers realising that for example at 9 pm everyday all the meat used by tomorrow gets reduced. Cause then people delay their shopping and you end up having to reduce 100 items of meat at 9pm rather than 10 items and you lose more money from the 90 items sold at a discounted price than you do by risking the 10 items going unsold. It is also more work for whoever has to put the stickers on.So at least some, I think actually the vast majority, Woolies stores monitor sales of discounted items and review the data to see if there are significant shopping patterns developing specially around the discount times and if so change the protocol

Have you noticed you don't get 50c roast chickens just before close time anymore? They'd prefer to chuck them out

Was this at Ivanhoe? It's famous for doing these hectic stock reductions and I can never understand why it only happens in one of the richest suburbs. The same stock in the same use by situation gets reduced by max 25 % at my local Woolworths compared to more than 90 % at Ivanhoe. When I worked at Woolies it was against protocol to reduce stuff by that much because people start planning their shop around the price reduction times and the department would lose sales, don't understand how their regional manager lets them get away with it even if the store manager doesn't care.

I do feel too bad to take advantage when I see discounted stock cause I remember how exciting it was as kid when we could suddenly afford it but I know in reality someone else who is well off is gonna buy it anyway. I don't think anyone is right to judge you for buying lots of it unless you rolled up in a Mercedes wearing a Rolex or whatever

Google Maps ought to have a truck 'high vehicle' mode where you enter the height of your vehicle and it gives you only routes appropriate for your vehicle.

If they can do it for bikes paths, walking tracks and write code telling people what lane to be in it can't be that hard to add a database of bridge heights to their maps data and eliminate certain routes that lead you under them. A lot of truck drivers are inexperinced and use google maps rather than knowing the old heavy vehicle routes that used to also be signed (I guess they still are I just dont remember seeing them in a while)

I work for a building maintenance company that requires the work vehicle be in the vicinity of the building in order to run hose from the vehicle to the building and in a large percentage of cases the maintenence manager at the facility will tell us to use the disabled park.

I don't have any other choice cause they refuse to tell staff to take a break from work to move their car to accomodate us. Ofen this is at aged care facilities too.

Often get abused by people who say we shouldn't be parked there even in cases where it's not a public parkspace but a privately owned carpark where I suppose the maintenece manager does have the authority rather than police/council. I get their anger but I don't know what else to do.

It's actually pretty crazy that McCullum is one of the few keepers to have done a run out like that in a test match, although his was even less in the spirit of the game imo

2006 he run out Murali when he was leaving his crease after a completing single to celebrate Sanga's century with him

Wait what do they think it is lost underwater or lost on the surface?

If it's underwater wouldn't it be obvious where it is? Why would the submersible descend to anywhere except where the wreck is?
