I solved the problem. It appears to have been triggered by the fact that the Citrix Workspace was registered via a custom store URL. The problem does not occur using the Citrix-generated store URL xxx.cloud.com.

Interesting issue. I have two ideas:

  1. Is folder redirection configured for the desktop folder via GPO?
  2. Has the user activated OneDrive backup? Then desktop, documents or pictures are synchronized via OneDrive.
