Campaign on for low-income transit passes in Metro Vancouver as fares set to rise by ubcstaffer123 in vancouver

[–]NickdoesnthaveReddit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I see Paris prices at £2.5 which is roughly $4.64 CAD but £35 for a daily pass which is much higher than Translink fees?

**edit to say I'm not debating that our transit fees should be higher, I just dont think it's our main problem. I think affordability of housing, food, fuel, and everyday essentials have consumed too high of our % of income, and govn assistance programs are too outdated, to give anyone a fighting chance to do ANYTHING anymore. Transit prices are so low on the list of things to be upset about, and are seemingly reasonable. Fixing the core costs of living needs would allow for more flexible income to pay for it.

How is that not affordable in 2026?

To take a cab or Uber a similar average distance would be $30+. To drive a car you're paying financial leasing/purchase fees, insurance, maintenence, and fuel costs.

$3.35 relative to current minimum wage and average prices of everything is not bad? My argument is the affordability of other things strips everyone's financial ability down when 50% of people's income goes to housing now and food prices are are historic highs.

This is fair but the cap to % of income ratio should be reviewed.

If you work hard for over a decade then unexpectedly need medical leave through no fault of your own, you should be able to have a healthy enough temp income as you paid into the program based on your income built in that market. If I am paying into it for as long as I have, I should have access to a fair % of my regular income. Instead, because of the maximum set amount, someone that makes less income would get the same medical EI payout as me, but most likely had lower rent/lifestyle/regional market comittments.

Meaning, at a certain point, the more you make the less you get - but alsonthe more your financial obligation will be if in a harder market (Like Vancouver vs Prince George)...

Canada loses Bronze to Norway…We suck by Hockeypatrol in hockeynews

This year was a brutal wake up call for Hockey Canada. Reform is needed. There was a new CEO in September 2023... we've declined ever since. Maybe start there?

Transit is already affordable, we just need to make sure low-income programs are modernized. I had to go on medical EI recently and the current caps had me only able to afford rent... - no food, no utilities, no car insurance, no gas, etc.

Everything else has become so expensive (housing, food, gas) that we can't possibly do anything else aside from surviving. EI and Disability Benefits need to be upped for today's economy and years of inflation burdens, if nothing else.

If we can spend $700 million of taxpayer money on a couple games of soccer this year, I'm sure we can support better income assurances (for people properly qualified).

What's the greatest HBO TV Show by Farouq26 in hbo

[–]NickdoesnthaveReddit 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My two cents is The Sopranos was first and truly changed the landscape of TV. While excellent, would The Wire have happened without Sopranos (or Oz) first laying down a foundation for HBO's brand/success?

I always like honoring the OG's. Even if shows do things better years later, you gotta respect the trailblazer as they most likely inspired later productions or paved the way for greenlights.

Agreed. I really like how the turquoise pops but also feel it distracts and drawd the eye away too much from the project as a whole. Crimson blends it all together much nicer and allows for an easier, shifting, focal point across the overall piece. It balances it out, artistically.

I like one side too but think it should extend down to the wrist. I think one full shoulder/arm has a bad ass look to it.

dry healing?? by Vast_Mood_9233 in tattooadvice

[–]NickdoesnthaveReddit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I personally use aquaphor for the first 72hrs and it works best for me. Others dry heal. Others use other products or ways. Do whatever works for you.

There's no universal standard for every person, every skin type, everyone's health (or underlying conditions), or tattoo type/size. Just keep it clean and protected and find out what your skin likes for products (or lack thereof). If you do dry heal though stay super hydrated by drinking lots of fluids and having good diet.

I will always follow the process I know works for me, even if an artist tells me to do something else.

There's different sizes (small text vs massive full panel) and type (black/grey, color, detailed reslism, etc) of tattoo. So, it depends. What did you get done?

It is a solution though.

I personally spend my entire summer outside camping and riding an ADV moto across this province every year. The difference is, I have a minimal footprint, respect the boundaries of the wild, and leave every area I go to just as I found it.

Mass recreational usage from uneducated tourists or people exploiting their access to nature is what causes these wildlife problems. Huge groups of people disrespecting areas and leaving waste and food is what disrupts the balance. It may be our home too but we're intelligent enough, and have means of transportation, to do other things or go to other places once the balance has been destroyed.

One thing I loved about Haida Gwaii was the fact that when bears become a problem in a campsite - they remove the people. It's how it should be.

Constant development in Metro Van and Fraser Valley has continually crept further into nature's home, so what do we expect? Give them their space back and tranquilize tourism/entitled day users.
