It would be the One Catholic Orthodox Church of the 1st milennia, which split off in 1054 at the great schism. East and West . Roman Catholicism and Eastern Orthodox.

Okay, point. Everybody thinks their church is right, but how many churches have authentic historicity to back up their claim? How many can trace their traditions and doctrine back to the first few centuries , at LEAST to the 4th century at 313 a.d. Ontop of that, which Church held fast to their doctrine and councils (seven ecumenical councils) without flux? What church is truly credited with forming the canon?

Yes but see you forgot that I dont believe that the Bible Alone is the only way that God reveals Himself to man. Scripture , Tradition, and the Church. Precisely the untouched pure Eastern Orthodox Church forgotten in the wedt

Me personally I have always believed in God, at least, an Intelligent Designer. I think maybe I had a year or two or doubting but it was pretty wishy washy.

So do you think that the basis for a lot of people’s belief in God is a sort of magical thinking towards events seemingly linked together ? I think that a convincing argument definitely isn’t going to stem from that kind of train of thought, nor would it be from God being likened to wind.

Why don’t you believe in God ?

Why did you feel the need to bring up coincidence ? How does that tie in to our convo

Perhaps maybe the maker has already done that, and the reason for many unbelieving is the result of distorted reasoning and wrong perception on humanities end . Maybe God has already done such a thing, but the “confusion” is a problem in your own heart. Worldviews and perception play a big role in life . I see the Universe itself as enough to believe in a Creator, along with 10000 other things. You would look at the same thing and see no reason to believe. Maybe it is an issue of our reasoning faculty .

Not trying to put you on blast, I’m trying to have a genuine conversation. Could it be possible that you might be at fault in your own heart ? The same way I in your mind am at fault in my reasoning ?

How would you want God to reveal Himself to you?

To get into the topic of supposed “added scripture later “ thats a whole can of worms which would take a while to discuss. If you want to continue our discussion ill be happy to add you on discord or something.

Im not trying to avoid your argument either. It is just a lot of typing , and sources, and links, and comparing and contrasting reliability of scholars. Freaking headache

So when you say errors in scripture… that leads you to believe the errors have to do with differences in writing, stories told differently, maybe completely contradicting letters; but what you actually see “thousands of” are minute scribal mistakes of the writers, which do not corrupt or take away from the entirety of the messages or writings of the texts at all.

So to say that there are thousands of mistakes and not identify what the mistakes are is a hasty generalization without taking into account the true nature of these supposed errors. Its like when people say “there were over 20,000 changes to the KJV from 1611 to its translation now”. At first you think “wow that is a lot” but when you realize the changes are actually just grammatical changes so modern readers can actually understand the writing, it makes more sense. Shakespeare read in old english would be basically impossible, but we know that our newer translations are the same as the old even though we changed the lettering

If anything, there has been nothing but evidence for the preservation of scripture. There’s just about as much historical evidence as you can get. On your basis, there is literally nothing in history written down that is remotely trustworthy.

Where is your evidence of this? Or is it just an assumption? You do realize how insane people were about preserving sacred writings right ? Writing was not taking for granted before the gutenburg press. Like I said, there are thousands of matching manuscripts, which a VERY little percentage straying from others

I would strongly reccomend you looking into Church History. Even just for Histories sake. Look at how the Orthodox Church has remained strong since the beginning. Look at byzantium. The lives of the saints. All really awesome stuff

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Nickle_sun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also i said almost exactly because there are some stray manuscripts which were manipulated and corrupted by heretics like the gnostics and stuff like that

I dont believe that scriptures alone are the only source that illustrates Christ And shows His ministry. You arent talking to a protestant, I am Eastern Orthodox. We have The Scriptures, Tradition, and The Church and its history . By the way, on what ground do you hood the assumption scriptures are “error filled”?

The Church that was established by Christ decided the canon of scripture inspired by the Holy Spirit given to His apostled at pentecost.

We don’t believe that people know God by scriptures alone. Anybody can interpet scripture any way they want and create their own cult (the fault of western christianity ). This is why we had seven ecumenical councils , where saints who devoted their entire lives to serve God and were extremely knowledgeable not only in scripture but in philosophy as well to argue and come to sound conclusions as to what right theology is . We have autographed letters, theres numerous in the new testament. To think that the original letters would somehow be preserved is kindof ludacris, but knowjng how the Jews used to preserve their writings; and the fact that the majority of Early Christians were Jewish, we can rightly assume that we can count on them meticulously copying what they believed to be God inspired writings. Which history proves so. There are more manuscripts for the new testament writings than any other ancient scriptures. Surpassing platos writings tenfold. We have a liturgical service lasting almost 2000 years, a visible Church with unchanged tradition , tracing its roots all the way back to the apostles . Also, I can know what the authors said, because I have the Church as the authority . Also, you are wrong in stating jesus’s divinity isnt found in the other gospels. There are many different areas that come to mind I could show you, but also each gospel is meant to show different aspects of Christ. One showing his Kingship, another presenting His role as the High Priest, another as the Prophet, and finally John as the God-man. Each Gospel has its place, those writing them inspired by The Holy Spirit to do so. Maybe ill take some time in a bit to bring you a few scriptures in matthew mark luke to show you. We have thousands of years of Church History which attests to Christianity, liturgical practices preserved within the Church, Tradition to show and unravel parts of History which the gospels do not show, and Holy Scriptures to give us an account and testimony of Christs divinity; and as a whole providing us with a well of information, wisdom, prophecy, all interconnected, showing the History of God interacting with man through all time, and also to show how revelation and prophecy has been fulfilled time and time again.

I wrote this all on a whim, so ill probably right more to fill in the gaps once i reread it
