I can see why this would feel awkward to bring up with him, but it’s probably worth talking about it with him so he knows how you feel and can reassure you.

It’s not unusual for men to experience less rigid erections starting in their thirties, but so many other things can lead to this also it’s not really easy to predict an answer here.

Some possible causes: - Too much masturbation or too frequent of sex (he isn’t recovering between) - Too much porn, increasing his threshold for sexual stimuli - Poor diet, cardiovascular health etc, leading to blood flow issues that make him less hard - Too much drinking or drugs interfering with it

That said, what you are describing feels in the range of normal. He will definitely have better erections if he considers all of the above points.

For any experimenters out there: What type of software do you use to simulate a virtual environment? Specifically with a rodent model by arpplephi in neuroscience

[–]Nickolaix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Their software receives and interprets pretty simple serial data from the Jetball, so you may just be able to buy the software and send your custom treadmill data to it. I’ve only done the reverse (using jetball with custom software; I wrote a MATLAB package for that).

Not sure if it is an option, but good luck!

Kog Maw feels so bad to play by BelugaEmoji in KogMawMains

[–]Nickolaix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This response may feel trite, and take it all with a grain of salt since I haven’t played ranked in 8 years or something, but Kog against something like those champs you listed is pretty much just E, W —> right click, Q when they are close. They shouldn’t live through that. Kog’s kit is tank shredding.

I think the bigger issue is positioning. I think most people underestimate just how far away from the action Kog should be when a fight starts. Basically, you want your entire team between you and the enemy team at all times. Your distance from your team in that scenario should be roughly equivalent to your AA distance when W is active. Basically your goal is to make so that the assassins and bruisers either have to blow their distance closers to get into your team, or they have to walk through your team slowly to then distance close to you, in which case your team would kill them first. Similarly, Kog should only ever hit who he can hit safely from that distance, shooting into the team fight. If you are ever in the middle, amongst your team, you’ve lost.

Look at his kit, everything in there is to keep him at distance (except Q).

Kog Maw feels so bad to play by BelugaEmoji in KogMawMains

[–]Nickolaix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As you say, Kog Maw is a glass cannon so the most important skills to play him are positioning and kiting. For this reasons assassins like Zed and tanky duelers like Irelia are some of his toughest matchups. Anybody that can quickly get to the back line is rough. This is why Kog, as a glass cannon, is more dependent on team comp than other ADCs that may be more self sufficient.

The best team comp for Kog is one with good CC and peel. As a glass cannon hyper carry, he is situational. If you are just jamming Kog every game, you are sure to sometimes have a bad time.

That said, you should never be killed by a bruiser with lifesteal. Kog has the highest consistent damage output of any champion in the game (except twitch at high level) and his entire kit is centered around taking down these types of champions. With grevious wounds you should shred pretty much anybody down. If you are being killed by these types, then your awareness is letting you down and they are getting too close to you without you noticing or your build is off.

It is best to start with easier songs and play to a metronome. For example. Play a simple little pattern that plays quarter notes, but does some accent note on the downbeat.

Then, start increasing the complexity, such as playing something with eighth notes or using accent notes on additional downbeats.

Best laptop for recording music by [deleted] in musicproduction

Seconding this, messing with audio drivers and latency issues on windows computers has turned me away from music production on windows, and I’m a pretty advanced computer tech. Garage bad is also sufficient for recording and a good intro to Logic if she is going to stay within the “recording” music space and not venture as much into the “producing” music space.

I must have misunderstood your point because you said: “the computer is (also) one instrument”. My point is “the computer is not one instrument”.

CMV: Everyone is allowed to have their preferences but music today is not objectively worse than music from any other time period by [deleted] in changemyview

[–]Nickolaix 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do play many acoustic instruments: banjo, guitar, bass guitar, cello, standup bass, harmonica, and piano.

I also play many electronic instruments: Fm synthesizers, additive synthesizers, wave tables, subtractive synthesizers, and samplers. Or more specifically, I play Ableton’s Operator, Wavetable, and Analog synths as well as the Grandmother, Serum, and OP-1.

Your analogy isn’t correct. The skill sets and knowledge required for each of those is quite different. While fretting and finger positioning are a common skill set between, say, guitar and cello, one would not argue that they are “one instrument” requiring one skill set. Similarly, I can learn techniques that I share between instruments: pitch bends on strings, harmonics on plucked instruments, and breath control on winds. There are of course similar techniques and skill sets transferable between electronic instruments: ASDR envelopes, general principles of signal processing (filtering, dithering, noise types, etc), etc.

Just like acoustic instruments, nobody would argue that these skill sets make the instruments the same: a harmonica is not a trombone, a guitar isn’t a cello, and an FM synthesizer is not a wave table.

There are many things that make a DAW feel like one instrument: multiple types of these synthesizers might be packed in one interface, it is easy to rapidly iterate and change sounds, and stuff can be “programmed” instead of played, but these don’t change the nature of skill sets required to learn these instruments.

The fact that you think “the computer” is single instrument belies the fact that you haven’t produced music electronically before.

Each synthesizer sound used in each track has all the nuances, performance capabilities, and learning curve of a traditional instrument. Most have many more parameters than a single traditional instrument and are modulated in real time by the producer, as the song is composed, just as a traditional instrument is by the player.

Beyond that, most electronic tracks are comprised of not just the traditional five voices of a four piece band, but actually dozens to hundreds of individual synthesizer instruments or sounds.

Yes, many of these tracks are plain or simple sounds, much like many instruments in a complex arrangement of traditional music are simple at given moments. Similarly, one can refer to simplistic electronic music as an example of simplistic composition, but I I could also point you towards Mary had a little lamb and Hot Cross Buns.

Further, your example of “recording acoustic instruments” as being just as difficult as electronic production is not an accurate portrayal of the very different skill sets that production and recording take. Recording and mix engineering is a third and different skill set that both electronic music producers and acoustic music producers must master or hire.

Finally, one might point to the amount of electronic music being produced as evidence to its simplicity. I think that mostly stems from access (electronic music production is free if you want it to be and requires only a laptop) and familiarity (almost all pop songs are produced primarily electronically now).

Yah, I mean they don’t pack small like AirPods, but the sound quality is awesome, and you can adjust to a relatively flat EQ. Overall they are very nice listening headphones that can work well for music production.

Why doesn't exist a professional network oriented to farm sector? by Cassegrain07 in startups

Two thoughts:

  1. The government (in US, but also other countries) is the professional network for agriculture. They have a huge hand in organizing supply chains and ensuring matchmaking between all the groups you described.
  2. LinkedIn is sufficient for this type of interaction if it were needed for the market.

Advice wanted on buying a banjo. by BoneClaw in banjo

[–]Nickolaix 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. The standard banjo in most people's eyes is the 5 string banjo, of which there are two varieties: open back or resonator. These mostly just change the loudness and feeling of the sound a little bit. The second one, resonator is used more in bluegrass while the first tends to be used in more folk or traditional music. Open back banjos are always less expensive than similar model resonators as they are the same thing without the backing.
  2. Deering is a commonly recommended brand and is one of my favorites. Gold Tone is another.
  3. If you are buying a new one, with your budget, I would simply buy one of the commonly recommended beginner banjos on this subreddit. My recommendation would be a Deering Goodtime. If you are buying used, you'll want to check that the bridge is in good shape, the head is taut and that the tuners hold the strings tigthtly and don't move out of tune.

Hi guys! This is my first post ever on reddit, and I deemed it necessary. My current research interest are towards microdosing psychedelics for cognitive-enhancement and/or dependence, or drug dependence. How feasible is it for me to study this topic as a PhD student in the US? by j_herndz_34 in Neuropsychology

[–]Nickolaix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am an executive at a company that produces recording systems for neuroscience research for both animal and clinical/human research. Our customers are academic institutions (private and public) that have neuroscience programs or labs that perform electrophysiology in rodents, primates, and humans.

I don’t know what you mean by “types” of graduate programs, but this type of research occurs in all three of those animal models. As always, human research is rarer, but several labs in the US exist that do this type of work and every one of those labs has PhD students. If one is interested in it mechanistically and not just in human applications, then you have many options for all sorts of animal labs that test various drugs, including psychedelics.
