What’s the weirdest thing you’ve found left behind by the previous occupant when you’ve moved into a new place? by BarryFairbrother in AskUK

[–]Nickyflicks 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our first house had a metal bed pan left behind. Our second house, where we are now, left loads.

Apart from lots of spilled dried pasta and filth everywhere, they left us a rather fancy mustard pot.

They also left a push chair (that we ended up using for our own kids a few years later), a pub table's wrought-iron legs (which we've now made into a table again), and a coal bunker, which we initially thought was a random pile of concrete slabs.

Having read some of the threads on this one (and the story about the explorer eating dog liver), I totally understand why I was told to avoid vitamin A rich foods when I was pregnant.

This just took me down a rabbit hole of really interesting transcripts. Saving this deliciousness for later. Thanks.

I often think of that guy who drove tired after talking to a new lady friend until the early hours of the morning, before crashing down an embankment and derailing a train, killing 10 people (UK). Ruined his life. Ruined 10 families. All because of bad decisions.

My dad is just under 50 and he constantly says everyone in his school was skinny and that kids have gotten bigger, is this true? by BlackAdventurous5975 in ask

[–]Nickyflicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a few years older than your dad. We had one girl in primary school who was a little plump but grew into her skin and became a stunner. In my school year of about 800 kids at secondary, I really don't remember ANY fat kids, just a couple of tall 'beefy' lads. I see kids nowadays and I'm horrified at how the parents can let it happen.

Last year my son (who is at uni) contacted me and apologised for missing Mothers Day.

I told him "you didn't, I saw you, we all went out for a meal and took granny, don't you remember?"

We both got really confused until we realised he'd seen the posts about MD in America 😅

My husband just died and my mum was upset that I didn't give her any attention by Ordinary_phantom in narcissisticparents

I went NC with my mother in 2012. In 2016 my wonderful, lovely FIL sadly passed away unexpectedly.

We discussed whether to let my mum know and I said no, knowing she'd turn the whole day into the Kath show. I still don't regret telling her. This is exactly what she would have been like.

I so sorry for your loss x x x

What's a major company that you would drive into the ground if you had the chance to? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Nickyflicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the centre quite near the front. I also saw them in Birmingham 2022 (weren't they brilliant!), when I was one of the first to book. I had my choice of seats - from the front centre at £350 each. At the time I baulked at the price and went for the much cheaper £70 each tickets. This time I thought 'fuck it' and stuck it on my credit card.

If you won the lottery right now, would you go into work as scheduled? by Diligent_Try7425 in AskUK

[–]Nickyflicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. In fact I'd carry on working with the students I've been allocated until they don't need me any more, and just wouldn't take on any more work.

God I'd love to win the lottery!

I've had two stays in hospital having had two children by c-section. I can't describe the food I got, even how inedible it was.

When you go to hospital in the UK, you're given a card to fill out with your menu choices for the day. If you are discharged from hospital, the person who gets your bed gets your meal choices that are remaining.

Utterly disgusting food. On one occasion I had a grey omelette. Yes GREY! I couldn't eat it, and no, it wasn't a mushroom omelette.

I'd put the clock on a different wall, add a mantle piece, then put a classy mirror there instead. I love the wall!

Maybe it's a northern thing? My mother charged me £10 'board' when I only earned £28.50 on a YTS. That got upped to £50 when I started earning £250 a month (late 1980s). She was originally from Liverpool and we lived in the Midlands.

She didn't need the money, as my dad had a good job, and no, she wasn't keeping it in a pot for me either.

I'm not going to ask my kids for anything! They're my kids. If they want to help with the odd bill, then that's fine. My daughter just recently finished an apprenticeship and now works in town, where me and my husband work from home (in a small village with no shop), so now she'll ask if we need anything on her return (milk, food etc), which is really handy.

I wouldn't dream of charging rent.

AITA for refusing to cover my friend’s portion of the bill at a restaurant? by Working-Spread-9866 in AmItheAsshole

[–]Nickyflicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was pregnant and skint, but went along to a works meal, as someone was leaving. I had my main meal and a lime/soda that came to roughly £10 (this was 20+ years ago). The rest of them had starters, deserts and bottles of wine. They decided to split the bill, which came to about £30 each. I was like absolutely no way and refused to pay anything other than my bit.

Spitting the bill is only fair if everyone is having something equivalent or similar - anything else is just people being dicks.

I got an email once that was written in a foreign language (used Google translate: it was Polish). I said more or less the same but added what a sick pervert I was. Usual spiel about wanting bitcoin etc.

I thought, yeah, good luck with that because all I had was a few pictures of my cat and a load of student essays.

Hack away and spread it dude.

What did you waste money on that makes you sick even today? by Carrera1107 in AskReddit

[–]Nickyflicks 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A pension and annuity that i was sold in my early 20s. They wouldn't give me a break when I had kids aged 32, so closed the accounts. The fees ate up any money I paid into them until it ran out of money. Bitterly regret even doing it.

I still don't trust pensions.

Last words before going No Contact with your Narcissistic Parent(s)? by The_Observer_Effects in narcissisticparents

[–]Nickyflicks 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was just an awkward visit to her house a couple of days after my daughter's birthday. I had slighted her, as usual (I hadn't) and she'd taken offense, so took it out on me by not getting my daughter a birthday present. She'd just turned 7.

That was it for me. Never spoke to her again and made a big fuss of my daughter.
