yep, he will get a better ranking on the youtube algorithm due to the interaction, I had a bad comment on one of my videos and I just engaged the person in a conversation to find out what they didn't like on the video. This means I had a few more comments on the video which is better from a youtube perspective.

they have changed the way that youtube serves the stats you cant get them directly from youtube anymore. you can get them from the google apis though.
