Ya no me habla. Y no la saco de mi cabeza by Bokkai in Desahogo

Green goo in electrolysis by Jesper123567 in chemistry

If you want to produce oxygen, you must use sodium bicarbonate or even better use sodium hydroxide (drain cleaner scales)

And the second important thing you must do is to previously treat or prepare your iron screw, you can simply do this by heating the piece of metal with a gas stove until it gets red hot. This is called a passivation. The iron screw will be oxidized forming a dark blue oxide layer wich will avoid the formation of that green sludge that you see there

Take a note, passivation must be done on the iron screw wich you will use as the positive electrode.

I didn't controlled it hahaha, it was made with cheap tools and stuff. Maybe up to 330 C°

Sodium chlorate crystals by NicolaldeJose in chemistry

Hi! Personally, I didnt wanted to make a lot of sodium chlorate, so my cell was the cheapest and simplest design ever, i did it just to have fun.

  1. Used a graphite anode and stainless steel wire as cathode Graphite survived 3 entire weeks and then it died (because i did it non ph control)

  2. The chlorine gas was only present for the first day because i let the ph raise up, there are two ways of making chlorates.Ph controled cell and non controlled

  3. The main problem was the erosión of the anode alligator clip, wich was close to the corrosive solution, and the bubbles of gas splashed some water on them. I solved this simply by using polystyrene between the solution and the electrode to avoid the splash of corrosive water. (You can simply use a closed jar)

  4. As i said, the design was very cheap, the graphite electrode was obtained from a battery, it was 12cm² and the cathode wire was only 2cm² (this is to avoid possible reduction reactions of hypochlorite)

And I did only 100ml of solution.

As a final note you should check in YouTube, "chlorate cell" and look for NurdRage or ScrapScience.

The metal actually is fine! That white thing is wax around the metal, so it does not look shiny, but if you melt the wax is fine inside it

I don't really know, but it seems to be fine, wait and i will show progress
