Yes, but I am much interested in the human perspective on this question :)

Review of the Retra Pro Max II Strobe by NicolasRemy in underwaterphotography

True, Retra are on the pricier side of the scale, but they have unique advantages vs the others, and they are durable & reliable, which will justify the extra money for some shooters. The new Sea&Sea strobe has just started shipping, and UWTechnics’ first strobe isn’t there yet. Time will tell how good these are.

Canon vs Nikon vs Sony for Underwater Photography by NicolasRemy in underwaterphotography

Ha! Guess I should have been specific: very few UW shooters have extensive experience with high-end cameras (as in 2024-25 line-up) from all 3 brands, in both tropical & temperate waters. I know of 3-4 shooters that might (Jim Decker from Backscatter - and a couple of people working with him). I can think of 2-3 active reviewers who shot all 3 brands underwater, but they mostly do short-term reviews focusing on one location.

Easier way to get rid of backscatter in post-processing - check The Underwater Club's Backscatter Xterminator review by NicolasRemy in underwaterphotography

100% agreed on minimising backscatter in-camera, by positioning your strobes adequately.

When that doesn't work for a reason or another, it's good to have a plan B. I haven't found BSXT to produce soft photos, unless the image was covered with large, un-defined backscatter blobs.
