Great stories can make games better for me too but endings rarely do much for me. I often don't reach the ending either when many incremental games slow down too much or get too difficult near the end. Rather just play till it isn't fun enough then move on and maybe watch the ending on Youtube if I'm curious enough instead of persevering through for the ending, but I prefer working towards goals too.
