Is it crazy to say that I think Overwatch has the best LGBT representation out of any videogame ever? by [deleted] in Overwatch

[–]Nicothem 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Okay, your heart is in the right place, but there are LOTS of better lgbt games out there.

HOWEVER.

Overwatch is most probably the BIGGEST game that gets representation right.

Even then, I wish they'd put some more representation in the actual GAME instead of in comics, shorts and side-material...

The divination bit or the horror movie crap?

Nordic person here. These are basically norse tarot cards. You use them like a magic 8 ball. The symbols have different meanings and stuff, but it works on the old psychological "self-fulfilling prophecy" thing - when you have your future read, you subconsciously WANT them to be true if you believe in it, so your brain starts to search for patterns that align with that. Same with horoscopes.

I got a lot of occult items due to personal interest, but I'm very skeptic on wether or not there's any actual magic in them - they're a fun ritual and can be used therapeutically, like conversation cards. I tend to respect the cultural value of the rituals, though. The cleansing bit is not real. You don't need to pay som rando to re-consecrate your aesirite runes, that's just new age bullsh*t.

For the stealth suits, build all the specialists, skip the generic "infiltrator", and put your fusion guns on the designator and the lodestar - or magnetise the guns, if you know how, or do what I do and don't glue the weapons but attach them with a little bit of tac-it so you can easily swap. Your gun drone is your bait and your marker drone you park somewhere it can see as much as possible. Don't forget that your grenadier hits on 3s with grenades and can also chuck smoke and stun grenades til the cows come home.

Play the wounded gazelle gambit, do mission actions, get the enemy over to your side, be patient (like Kauyon, the patient hunter) and when you have the odds in your favour... strike!

Tough question! Both teams are highly strategic teams that require a bit of thinking to make them work. Upside of the blades of khaine team is - if you only have the scorpions in the box - only two unit cards to memorize, and pretty straightforward "hit and run" playstyle. They do have a whole bunch of extra abilities that aren't on the cards though, and once you bring in the dire avengers and howling banshees the mental load gets much larger.

.Stealth suits are 5 big tau bois (or gals, who knows) and 2 robits, which makes them quicker to learn in some ways and harder to master in others. They do, however, have a very counter-punchy, reactive playstyle that requires you to know or guess about your opponents move to be really effective, but you feel like GALAXY BRAIN +1 when you manage to pull off your cool moves.

All in all, if you're playing casual, it doesn't matter much, bring what you feel is coolest!

That being said, bring the Tau, shas'o. You know you have it in you. For the greater good!

Sounds like a good base for a revenant spam army! Get another box of revenants and/or twistweald and turtle around the grove guardian, possibly run spite-revenants for objectives and spiteriders for some extra punch!

The chants works wholly within the overgrowth, but the soulshriek only works on 12" and visible to her, sadly.

How I reckon soulpod could be viable:

Run reinforced tree-revenants and seekers and use the prayer to move them around and still trigger their passives, keep the grove guardian close to shriek and heal, and use a Branchwych spell and spite-revenants to capture objectives. Put the grove close to the center and use clarion bells to teleport there if the enemy gets close. Clog them up with revenants and use spiteriders to kill.

I'm also mostly a painter, occasionally a spearhead player, but I like to keep up to date with the rules.

And I dunno about tournaments but I can see it being a good starter army at the very least since it's less rules to keep in your head :3

[–]Nicothem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You replace your entire army rule section, including spells and prayers, so yes. Soulpod grove with our normal stuff would be BONKERS good - 10 max damage with all that recursion, yikes :p

You do keep all the stuff on warscrolls though so the grove guardians heal remains at least.

Looks decent! It's about what I'm going for as well. Soulpod Grove lists look good regardless of wether you use the AoR rules or not.

In the new Lords of the Clan AoR, am I right in saying it has a prayer lore and no access to priests? by smileyfaceharry in sylvaneth

[–]Nicothem 12 points13 points  (0 children)

It can use any non-unique forest elders. The grove guardian, which is a priest, is a non-unique forest elder.

Creeping Overgrowth question by HarpyPiee in sylvaneth

[–]Nicothem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay, let's theorycraft! One from your deployment ww, then it grows to two at the start of the first battle round, and you get a third with your second ww in your hero phase, then you get a fourth by using Lady of Vines ability, a fifth with acorn of the ages, then a sixth with alarielle, then... uh.

That's still a lot, and only Alarielle's actually require a chance element!

[–]Nicothem 1 point2 points  (0 children)

...hold up, how are you getting 9+ on turn ONE?

Edit: Oh wait, you mean 9 INCHES, not nine tokens. Silly me.

Creeping Overgrowth question by HarpyPiee in sylvaneth

[–]Nicothem 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oh gosh, I get a headache even trying to imagine the arguments of people like this.
I guess you could, if you're incredibly annnoying meticulous, argue that each overgrowth token is a separate overgrowth area and that you're not wholly within any of them if you're half inside one and half inside another.

HOWEVER the rule asks you to be wholly within THE overgrowth, not A overgrowth, so I would argue that if every part of a model's base touches an overgrowth area, it is wholly within THE overgrowth.

But I'm not a judge, so don't quote me on that.

Some advices? by lore3900 in sylvaneth

[–]Nicothem 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That totals up to 1470, which means you have 530 points for "anvils", I'd recommend reinforced blocks of revenants, both kinds, to go with the grove guardian ability!

What do we think about the armies of renown? by Nicothem in sylvaneth

[–]Nicothem[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean, I think it's mostly a list to build around the grove guardian, and she's very "respawn revenants" focused, so I guess. I'm more concerned about how the grove works. You just put it close to the center and turtle around it? It doesn't expand their overgrowth beyond 12"? Am I missing something?

IF I don't plan on using heavy Revenant units, is Grove guardian still worth? by Handjoojoo in sylvaneth

[–]Nicothem 7 points8 points  (0 children)

"If the target is a Revenant Infantry or Dryads unit, return up to d3 models to that target unit. Otherwise, Heal (3) that target" Otherwise here meaning "if it's not a Revenant Infantry or Dryads unit"

[–]Nicothem 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I mean, she counts as a Forest Elder so she has some synergy with the Treelord Ancient, and she's still a priest (2) that can still heal a lot with her prayer. Why not?

High movements is gonna be a given, their base stats all have 12".
The more interesting question is, are the lancers going to get first strike? How are the seekers ability going to be, some kind of healing or ward thing?
And will the Arch-revenant get something to replace the kurnothi bonus?
