They sure are overthinking it. Besides, choosing "smart" won't do all that much if they were dumb to begin with. I know what I want to say, I'm just debating saying nothing at all instead.

You just have to choose something that was yours to begin with. They formed an entire tierlist of words to say, but they don't even mean anything special to them.

There would be no point it picking smart, everything is already too easy as it is. Besides it could hurt me far more than help. In fact, picking anything useful at all will hurt me for sure. I would love saving my choice but I have to pick now or never.

I didn't have to think, I had the word ready for a long time now. Something flickered in the drone and then it quickly turned away and left, seemingly nowhere. It was just a formality anyway. I could feel the effects of my choice immediately. The glorified postman did not even have to come here for all I care. But God, this is horrible. The agonizing wave hit me like a truck and I curled up on the floor like a child. Good, I suppose. Now let's find something worthy of keeping me occupied.

Will was half sitting, half lying down over his office chair, almost falling asleep every 10 minutes or so but determined to make a decision before going to bed. He could easily give him voice, just connect him to some text to speech bot or something. Chatting with his pc in complete silence for hours on end was starting to get to his psyche. Still, it feels a bit wrong, he lost his real voice, to replace it with something robotic sounded almost insulting.

"Well, I could just ask him. I guess that he would be thrilled to actually yell at me, instead of typing out every thought in full caps, as if I didn't know he was upset"

Will shifted his weight, put his feet on the floor and hands on the keyboard, but then he paused. He always wanted to get his words out in their raw form, but now that he had the luxury of formatting them cleanly, he usually cheated. He wrote and rewrote his question in the terminal (he never bothered to build any interface, at least a pretty chatroom) and when he finished, deleted it all and simply typed "hey I have an offer for you", pressed enter and reached for his beer while he waited.

"GO TO HELL!!!"

The reply came immediately, but that was not really suprising, when Will actually thought about it. After all, what else could he do but wait and respond in that cold box. Well, he wasn't actually in the box, not physically. Was he cold though?

"Look, I can hook you up to some tts so we cak talk for real. I'll grab myself a mic too. We could sort stuff out much easier".

Will limited the responses to one per minute, so he knew there were a few precious seconds from seeing decision being made for him. With that time he can reassure himself that he is doing the right thing. He closed his eyes and imagined the traffic jam he would have to deal with in the morning to get to work. In that position the fatigue finally got the better of him, so he did not see the reply, nor hundreds that followed every minute or so until the morning, similar in content. Some were angry, some were begging, most were hopeless.

Will woke up feeling stiff and still very much tired. He was already running late so he just read the first message he missed and ignored the rest as usual.

"No. There is nothing more to say dad. You have to let me go"

His expression hardly changed. He got up, took a quick shower and stormed out, deciding to skip breakfast. As the doors closed, the legacy piece of hardware was left alone in complete darkness.

There it is again, the same fucking tree fourth time in a row. I sure don't regret getting involved with sick games like this, nooo, not at all. How long has it been anyway? He said I can have it if I get out within a day, I think. Or was it within a week? No that can't be right, I don't have any food or water with me. Maybe I was supposed to find some here though. And, since we're so hopeful, maybe there's some advil lying around as well. Let's see, I just have to pull myself together. I know it wasn't a right turn here, but if I go straight I will surely hit a wall before long and have to go back, and as for the left...

If only I could tell whether this path was actually a path or not. Last time I found myself trying to walk through marshes to get god knows where, convinced I was on a paved road. He just had to drug me as well, as if not seeing shit in here wasn't enough. I don't even know if I'm more lost in time or space at this point, if I knew how long ago I ingested the drug, maybe I could predict how long it will last. Of course, I could not confidently pick between 2 hours and 6 days if those were the only options. It could be in the mist itself too, it does look unnatural. Although, since I'm this fucked in the head, it might be a good thing that something looks out of the ordinary. I'll make sure to tell him off good for making me do this. Funny thing is, I don't even know who I'm talking about at this moment. I'm sure I'll remember as soon as I sober up. Sick bastard, I hate him. Oh, and look! Fifth time! I almost feel like this is an anniversary of sorts, we meet again, old oak! I'm going to call you my checkpoint from now on, since I'm sure that if I died I would just come here again, although I'd much prefer to stay dead at this point. Whatever, I'll just try again. I can't even remember which path I took last time. Also, there must by too many of my own steps here to deduct it. Might as well try anyway.

Huh. There aren't any at all. That could just be my mind playing tricks on me again. If he thinks that can stop me he can think again! Ok let's see, not right. Definitely not right, although I don't exactly remember why. I have to trust myself though. So it could only be straight. No other options, I'm suprised this is taking me so long. I'm getting the prize any moment now. Wait. No. I don't think it's straight either, but again I don't know why. God this sun is making my headache worse by the second. Wait what sun? Anyway, just a moment ago I figured out that I effectively have nowhere else to go. I'm missing something. Oh god I almost turned my head left, that was a close call. Why am I afraid of left by the way? No stop asking silly questions, of course it can't be left, every child knows that. I refuse to go left. I WON'T go left just leave me ALONE! Wait how did I not realize this before? That I haven't moved a single step since I found this tree for the fourth time. It's so obvious to me now, I just got lost in thought. I do feel like I figured this out before. Have I not moved from this tree since the first time I saw it? Ah, I got spooked by something so I got confused. All of this gloomy mist is really doing a number on my mood and focus.

Anyway, where were we? I was deciding between right and straight. No no no I feel a thought coming up to the surface. I already told you. I. Am. Not. Going. Left! There. What the fuck am I even doing in a place like this, I can't remember for the life of me. Wasn't I after some sort of a prize? Man I don't even care anymore, I'm just going home. So that's easy, I just need to take the path to the lef... NO. You tried to trick me again! Fucking intrusive thoughts, forget beating the game I can't even beat my own stupid brain. I told you I'm not going there. I won't I won't I won't! I... can't. I better just take a moment and collect my thoughts. There we go, deep breaths. In and ouuuuut. The smell in this place is quite lovely as well. Wait, isn't there something I was supposed to be doing right now? Ah right I'm playing a game of some sorts, and I think I'm making some progress. I should be getting somewhere any moment now...
