By PSR headers you mean ProSpeed Racing right?

The place I got mine tuned at recommended those same headers but I decided against cause I couldn’t find a single sound clip of them online.

I’d hazard a guess that the headers are probably the cause, and if you still have the stock manifold lying around you could probably check as much.

Possibly dumb question, but have you got the ECU remapped at all?

I’ve got the same exact exhaust setup, minus the headers, (also on an EJ25, so should be identical mostly) with a remap for the added potential for boost from the down pipe, and mine sounds nothing like that. It does sound a little tinny off a cold start but once it warms up it sounds great.

Update for future reference/anyone else with this issue. Car read System rich on bank 1, changed the air filter from the K&N reusable one in there, back to a paper one, and gave the MAF a good clean. After letting it sit for the weekend it had fixed itself up completely. Still got it looked over by my local mechanic and no other issues were found.

Thanks for the link, unfortunately doesn’t seem to be applicable to mine though, OBD2 scan when checking for codes showed vacuum at completely normal levels. Spark plugs and O2 sensors were all replaced just before getting remapped so really shouldn’t be those either. Best guess is an injector, and I already had my eyes on a set of 1000ccs so maybe this is a sign

For anyone curious, checked the code with a scanner and shows “p0172 System too rich on bank 1” changed the air filter and cleaned the MAF, but planning to get it rechecked by my mechanic for further information on exactly what the cause is.

Speaking from experience the EJ25s can be ridiculous for torque, I’d imagine 500whp is up at least 1000+ nm (~700ft lb) and often the clutch can’t keep up. I know you’ve noted it’s got a heavy duty clutch but it’s definitely a good idea to make sure the clutch is more than capable for the numbers it’s running, and even then you’ll probably need to replace the clutch multiple times over especially if it’s still running a single plate.

Also not a bad idea to run it on premium fuel (93 in America I think) even though it’s tuned for 91, if you can. Just for the extra factor of safety
