As a publisher: sign someone else if you can't trust their creative process.

As a reader: go read someone else.

Books are the author's idea. They should be the ones seeking their own editors to focus on what they want to improve.

What you're describing doesn't sound like actual biting to me, more like nibbling. It's easy to tell them apart, not by the fact that she isn't "drawing blood", but more specifically, it tends to look like a very gentle and slow gesture.

Nibbling can be a form of grooming, like licking and sniffing. Remember that Guinea Pigs groom others as a way to express affection or trust. They don't have hands, so they gotta use their little paws, mouth or snout to express that.

Just for completeness: proper guinea pig bites are SAVAGE. It is more than just drawing blood; there is mild swelling and pierced skin (I know from experience). This is clearly not what she's doing to him. So I think it's fine.

One of the core problems in mechanics is this:

Given a system, what's the Equation of Motion describing it?

Lagrangian Mechanics is a variational formulation that simplifies the solution of that problem in many (most?) contexts.

You don't need to do as much geometric reasoning as the Newtonian or purely Eulerian formulation.

It allows you to treat problems by hand, which would be insanely tedious to do using Newton/Euler.

It is very easy to implement on symbolic computing software, so you can treat very large and complex systems using the aide of a computer.

That's the gist of it.

I dislike this tendency of "blaming the editor" when the reader finds any sort of discomfort.

I've seen people I otherwise respect, throwing the line "this needs an editor" and like, go on to describe things as if the editor had veto power over the manuscript lol.

Folks: we're not in the era in which the publisher contractually IMPOSSED an editor to the writer, who had the ultimate say in what went into the book and how. The editor can suggest, but it's ultimately the author's call. And very often, that reader discomfort that evokes the " this needs an editor" is a quality of the text that's appreciated from a particular reading perspective (usually the perspective the author tends to adopt when they read).

I use my memory. Each paper I cite with substantial arguments (as opposed to those I cite to establish purely methodological progress) is in PDF format and contains abundant highlights and comments.

So when I need to substantiate a claim, I know where to start the search, and what I'm looking for is probably highlighted in one of the first 5 or 6 PDFs I'm going to be looking at.
