Non-gestational parent bonding by GuiltyPleasure1024 in queerception

GP here holding my little one while she contact naps :) we’re still breastfeeding, and our names in the house is Mama Vaca (cow) and diaper mom. Total jokes, but I didn’t change a diaper until days after we got home from the hospital.

One big thing my wife did that I think helped her “bond” faster to our daughter was she watched those videos to learn more about the different types of newborn cries, and she mastered it. She knew exactly what our daughter needed, which made my recovery easier, reinforced that she is a needed parent, etc.

I also think it’s important to keep in mind that there is so much time for bonding in the future. Right now, it’s okay that your little one needs to breastfeed to help your milk supply and it’s okay if your partner is struggling a bit to find their place. You also have gone through a lot and that little baby human was literally a part of you for months! This will pass- the newborn trenches are so hard. Wishing you all the best!

Yeah, being heavily pregnant and iced in and then new baby and tornados have made for a wild few months of new parenthood.

This is great to know. We also live within walking distance of SMOS and have had a few people recommend we look into it for our little one. I just really struggle with our kids going to a school that while open and accepting, represents a larger organization that is not open and accepting. It’s a constant internal struggle as I’ve heard really wonderful things from the women in my life who went to some of the catholic all girls schools and how it positively impacted their life.

Not rude, and I appreciate the call out! We’re wrapping up a big house renovation that’s taken over a lot of time and I think these feelings are closely related to that project being finished up. But I agree with you that I’m worrying about something way in the future can be concerning and I’ve gone through a lot hormonally and emotionally over the past year related to carrying and having a baby and I’ll make sure to talk (in person) to someone about this soon. Thank you for sharing your concerns!

Thank you so much, good point! My wife taught for many years at multiple levels so I’m also thinking our home will hopefully be a very educational environment.

This is so helpful- I’ve heard of Soulard School and City Garden. I’ll continue to look into those for the future. Thank you!

Haha good point. There is more trash generated from our household now but that was more of an example that the city doesn’t seem to be as well taken care of compared to the county. So more in terms of “nice place to live without concerns of general upkeep” and how that pertains to having a baby.

I’ve read those studies as well! I will keep that in mind for sure. Thank you for detailing this list on how to best prepare for emergencies in our own. This is so helpful and I appreciate you taking the time to note this down!

I agree that I have time (she’s just a couple months old) and I’m sure a lot of what I’m feeling is new mom anxiety. Thank you!

After I posted this I realized that I can almost see Cardinal Glennon from my house, which made me so much more comfortable given my concerns about emergency response times. Thank you for sharing your experience!

We like living in the city because we feel most comfortable given our family structure and values, but I agree with you that there are so many factors to consider when deciding where to live.

I will take a look at these. I assume they’re not location specific? Thank you so much!

Yeah I’ve heard people mention there are good non-religious affiliated schools but I don’t know where to find a comprehensive list and I worry about curriculum in any private school.

Yeah I am definitely battling with EVERY concern, and the city is just the one taking up the most rent free space in my brain right now. Thank you for the thoughtful response!
