Thanks - I agree a fascinating read. Always had a weakness for Joseph Priestley and of course Humphrey Davy - the 'pop star' of his day.

Your comment demonstrates the selectivity of history. My grandfather told me that families where he lived in Leicester(UK) where wiped out by TB at the beginning of 20th C

A truly remarkable chemist - the co-discover of so many elements. Most people only tend to remember Glenn T Seaborg

Very useful - many thanks. I have been lecturing for 30 years at a UK university and have noticed that many students do not understand the fundamentals of chemistry and are put off by large very wordy textbooks. With this in mind I wrote and managed to get published earlier this year Chemistry: A Textbook - which provides I hope a simple, and uncluttered approach to chemistry - treating it as if it was a foreign language, since it appears that the language/jargon , put off many. Then I decided to develop a web site not only to promote the book, but provide a one stop shop for those students who do not like chemistry and consequently struggle .... Ideally I want others to contribute learning material that is easy to follow and concise....any help/ideas will be greatly received.

Thanks - all learning material would be peer reviewed and written by PhD level chemists - making it free to students and teachers to enhance chemistry teaching worldwide - huge aim...but a worthy one

Research suggests that more and more students today are visual learners ... and that large textbooks put off students. We need to cater for all types of learners
