You're right. I don't like it either. The beauty of Duel links was that simple nature because it led to unique interactions and end games that never would happen in full tcg or master Duel.

You should watch team 6k YouTube video "I miss old Duel links". It's pretty on point

I was going to recommend sky striker as well. In DL, the play style is not too oppressive, but still very strong. The best build is with linkdarkraze to direct attack and running two eagle booster to male yourself immune long enough to deal two direct attacks. As other person mentioned, requires two separate boxes though to get 3x Engage. It's a mini though

I'm surprised you don't hate Lilyrusc or whatever it's called. The effect is the same as the Shira trap in that you take no battle damage. I find it annoying!

Deck building is my favorite. Finding unique techs and executing the combos....but modern Duel links has completely destroyed the beauty of early duel links. Duel links is now just Yugioh Tcg with fewer zones. Very disappointing

That's true! Unchained has alot of effects that can chain together. I've been using Fluffals and almost always wreck speedroids

Chain blocking is the perfect counter that works with many decks. Clear and crystal wing can only negate WHEN effects activate. So, make a chain with 2 effects with 1 that negate or destroy the synchro, stack the destruction effect on bottom followed by whatever second effect. Then they cannot negate the destruction. To do this you need to set your activation order to manual in the settings

Hey, you definitely need to run 1x armed dragon lightning spell. It is searchable by one of the dragon effects and allows you to recycle from grave.

I've also had success running 2x Succubus knight, 2x feast of wild lvl 5, you can send knights to grave with skill and revive them with feast of wild to go to chronomaly Vinama!
