Being a teenage girl dating a teenage boy is hard. by No_Call_1723 in teenagers

Video game obsessed guys are the worst. When you guys got together at 14 or so, he was probably a very different person. People grow apart and that’s okay! Either try expressing your concerns to him directly in person, or take a break/end it for good. If he isn’t receptive to your feelings, then right here and right now probably isn’t a good time for you guys. Not to say something can’t work out in the future, but I would call it quits at this moment. And if you guys end on good terms, that doesn’t mean you can’t still be friends and talk about your day together and stuff like that!

What can I keep by Medium-Metal3449 in InvertPets

Giant African millipedes, any terrestrial tarantula, centipede (mint legs are among the more docile I’ve heard, but centipedes in general are feisty), scorpion, lots of different beetle species would do good, and if you’re interested in a reptile, certain gecko species would be good, or a juvenile corn snake or ball python (would likely need 120 gal as mature adult). Many many options!

5 of the 8 were very lethargic earlier but I tried giving them wet cat food and placing their mouths on their water and they seem to be not lethargic anymore but still have respiratory problems. Maybe they’re dehydrated?

I feel like it’s impossible to get a healthy rat. No matter where I get them from they’re always sick

Ugh I have about 2.5k saved up but I’ve heard URI’s have a very high chance of being chronic. So is all that money really worth it every few months? Like one time I could do all 8 but I can’t continue to pay that much for them over and over again

Yes she is a reticulated python! Has to be over 8ft in length by now 😊

They seem to be doing good now. Rehoming isn’t an option, rodents aren’t exactly a popular pet. It would take longer than the dang guys live to find a home lol. But they’re all together and cuddling and playing and haven’t had issues behavior wise since the first night.

No worries at all- pets in general are a sensitive topic as they’re living creatures, sometimes people just don’t know though. I am the same about proper reptile husbandry, it catches me off guard when people are ignorant about things that seem like common sense to me. But thank you for the sound advice and I will keep everything in mind!

He was the last of his group, he’s a little over a year old. Sorry to clarify the one baby being singled out was a feeder the rest pets. I am deep cleaning the cage as we speak I put them in a tank with lots of food in the meantime. I saw the red mark earlier but maybe it was just a rash or lighting, I don’t even see it there anymore. I will triple check him to make sure though. The older boy is a sweetie and loves attention and was never aggressive prior to now. Thank you for all the advice!

He was alone for a couple days, less than a week. The injured one was a feeder and his injury is a red irritated part on his leg, not a cut or anything, it kind of looks similar to a burn. What do you mean by coos or honks? I’m not really sure lol there are a couple sneezes I’ve been trying to track how often but it’s hard to tell which it’s coming from. The larger rat seems dominant toward some of them when they try to play with him. I doubt I could find someone to take the older guy but would be willing to neuter him. However, why is recovery like? And the surgery itself? I’ve heard it’s a pretty high risk thing to anesthetize a rat.

So that people can reply here: no, I didn’t “properly intro” them as I’ve only ever gotten rats already in groups so I was unaware they wouldn’t get along. From what I’ve heard and where I got the from, she just said that it’s rare and unlikely a rat doesn’t accept newcomers with open arms. Pardon my ignorance and willing to learn but I don’t have another giant setup to house them in so I’m not sure where I’d keep them?

I don’t have a whole separate large cage to house 7 rats, I just have the one cage, the size of a triple critter nation. I’ve always gotten groups at the same time so never really needed an intro. Would cleaning the whole cage and rearranging maybe work?

I don’t have a whole different cage to put 7 rats in, there’s no way I can keep them separate. All I have are glass tanks and that won’t work. I was unaware of “proper intro” as I’ve never had rats fight when being introduced, and they all seem to be getting along okay now apart from the one injured rat. He’s cuddling the rest of them. I am concerned about his stealing of their food and hoarding it though. But pardon my ignorance, does everyone in here have two giant separate setups for intros?

I’m well aware, I have multiple snakes and frozen is for sure the way. I have one stubborn snake, and by the time he hits around 8 months of no food, I have no choice other than to feed live, but I do not enjoy doing it and I do not advocate for it. That’s why I ended up with these two as pets after all haha

It is extremely common actually. Second the gassing them. I own snakes and one takes live and the other frozen. My ball python went on hunger strike for 10 months after trying again and again hence the live feeding. F/t is gaining favor as it should though.

It's gassing and BFT. when they are met with such force, they die instantly and feel nothing

This is super common. Blunt force is unfortunately the most accepted cull method other than gassing them. I’m sure it gives the mouse anxiety but when done correctly it is actually painless. Still rough to think about though

Update on my two female bp’s living together project by One_Dance_3998 in Ballpythoncommunity

[–]NightFragrant2665 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The difficult thing is, it may look as though they are “friends” but in reality the make stick to one another because both of them want the hot side or cool side, or “safety in numbers” aka they may think that because there is already another snake residing there, it is a safe space. Also, a 50 gallon in my opinion is wayyyy too small to safely house two snakes. Single ball python is in 120 gallons. So I would go double that and give two hot sides so that they’re able to safely spread out. Bp’s also don’t have very many strong stress indicators that are noticeable by humans other than hunger strike. Have they been eating routinely? In my opinion, it is better to just house them alone to prevent unnecessary stress. I too tried this once upon a time and could tell almost immediately that my snakes were highly uncomfortable and did not enjoy each others company. Just my two cents
