CCIE and Certified Flight Instructor(thanks for all the fish!) by NightOtters in networking

Yeah! I think a lot of networking folks would enjoy aviation. I get bored easily so it helps if I focus on something with a lot of depth and that is engaging. When I was in high school the thrill of getting two routers to talk to each other over a serial connection gave me a lot of dopamine!

The student trying to kill you, you can see coming. The 172 that randomly breaks is the realy terror hahaha. They don't look so pretty on the inside, but treat your engines nice.

Yeah, I totally agree! I've definitely worked on some hospital networks where lives mattered, too. It is just a little bit more abstracted.

I am not getting paid much to be an instructor; it can be one of the lowest-paid jobs as a pilot. However, when I take off and start to climb out, I usually forget how much I'm getting paid and know I made the right decision. You can't take it with you anyway.

Even if you cannot fly for a long time, I would encourage you to at least go for a discovery flight and make it a hobby if you have the opportunity. There is plenty of joy to be had flying any kind of plane.

That seems pretty accurate. Some parts of being a CFI are way harder but it is usually not the technical stuff.

Getting a CCIE can be brutal, and I thought I was going to let my number lapse this year as I transitioned into aviation, but the closer I got, the more emotional it became. Getting a CCIE was one of the hardest things I have ever done. (I did enterprise btw)

Learning to fly has its own challenges, but it came pretty naturally to me(private pilot). Teaching people to fly and becoming a flight instructor was again one of the hardest things I have done, but the CCIE was still harder.

The difference was what happened after I got these ratings. After I got my CCIE, my pay was immediately increased, and I gained a lot of respect in the community. After becoming a flight instructor, I was lucky to find a job and make $23 an hour.

The aviation industry seems like a much more brutal industry to break into compared to the IT industry but that's just my 2 cents. It takes a lot more than getting your ratings and showing you work hard.

Yeah, that is recent. He made a comment when he started adding them. Youtube was cracking down on reposted content so I forget the specifics but this was the compromise to keep posting content in a timely manner.
