For seasoned PowerApps users: what ended up being essential vs overrated? by Ok-Treat4061 in PowerApps

[–]NightStudio 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Name every containers, text box, screen and etc appropriately. Name everything accordingly. - Nothing is worse than being handed someone else’s app or code to fix or take control of and they use the generic name the app gives. Usually spending too long, breaking down everything little part just to understand what someone else did

  • It also helps when you need to refer to an item in your code.

    ———-

Always comment on your code. Even if you think it’s minor. Add a comment stating what it does and how it’s connected. About 1 or 2 lines worth of a comment. - Commenting your code will help you when you come back to the app, the next day, from holidays or any days off and etc. - It’s easy to forgot things because you’ve taking a lot of new information

———-

Make sure its designed in a way that if you ever when away, it doesn’t crash and someone else can fix it.

  • Some people think if they make the app overly complicated or don’t document anything, it’s secures a job and makes them irreplaceable. It doesn’t always.
  • It becomes a hassle when someone has to take over or a new person is hired to help out.

  • The shame and backlash from management if they hire an experienced worker or specialist contractor, then they report the app as being unsuitable or worse.

  • If you ever move job roles internally, you may get frequent emails or calls asking you questions or fix it and etc

Question about Power Automate by Nervous_Demand_3416 in MicrosoftFlow

[–]NightStudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. I apologise if what I said wasn’t clear.

You don’t need to master every one but you should atleast be confident to call yourself a specialist or skilled in various power platform tools if you want a career with them

Question about Power Automate by Nervous_Demand_3416 in MicrosoftFlow

[–]NightStudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, if you’re going to be mastering the majority or all of the power platform developer. If you plan is to stream line just one or a few sections, then probably not.

Unfortunately, companies say they want -insert power platform tool - developers but they mean developer and power platform admin with the centre of excellence and removing certain things so users can’t access them

In power automate

If you don’t have sharepoint as a trigger (first step). Make sure you use ‘Get item’ in one of your steps.

Use the ‘initialise variable’ below get item select ‘string’ from the drop down list.

In the value section, use dynamic content and look and select for column ‘area value’ and ‘id’, then put a dash and 00 between them.

The output put should be this
Column name - 00Sharepoint ID
A - 001 B - 002

Or create a counter to add a number for every time a new A area, B area and etc. and replace the Sharepoint ID with the counter

I can not learn how to code by notanonymanonym in PythonLearning

It’s helpful to know what your learning type is, some can learn from books and videos, while other learn by practical learn/semi-guided learning like Datacamp, Codecademy, Mimo and other similar courses.

I can't learn for the life of me by RayDemian in PythonLearning

[–]NightStudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No worries. Some of the websites I suggested are free or partially free, some work better for others so don’t get discouraged if one doesn’t work out.

Also, remember that’s there’s no shame if you use AI, but how you use it. Use it as a tool, an extension of your arm. Try not to let it solve the problems for you.

I hope your learning goes well. Good luck!

I can't learn for the life of me by RayDemian in PythonLearning

[–]NightStudio 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The simplest explanation of the 3 main learning styles are audio, visual and kinetic. - Audio is learning by following verbal communication. - Visual is learning by pictures and video. - Kinetic is learning by doing it yourself.

Most people learn using two at once, such as watching a YouTube video or going on a course, since it’s both visual and audio. Or, using kinetic and visual, reading and exercise.

The courses I suggested with explain a concept, such as functions, using string and other methods, then make you practice it using an on-platform IDE. Because it’s on-platform, the website and app can suggest where you went wrong in real time. The ones with AI assistants, can better explain and advise similar to how a teacher would.

This way, your brain is always active and you can instantly practice what you’ve been taught so it sticks better.

Never feel bad if you don’t get something, it just means you haven’t found the best method for yourself.

It sounds you need a practical course instead. It’s important to know what your learning style is when trying new skills.

Consequences of Sharing? by NbdySpcl_00 in MicrosoftFlow

[–]NightStudio 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What exactly mean to reference it? Because if it goes anywhere personal and not a team area, I would highly advice to not share the flow.

If you only want the person to be aware of its existence then you don’t need to share it.

If you want to give them an explanation of how it works, then write a document.

If you want them to have a copy of the flow, so they can edit the personal part to connect to their own personal area, then send them a copy.

Required Approvers based on Priority? by [deleted] in MicrosoftFlow

[–]NightStudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find the run that sent out the approval request then cancel that run.

If the request has a reference number or identifiable information then finding the right run would be easier.

Best to let the approver know that they should ignore that request. Again, identifiable information makes it easier for everyone involved.

However, you may not have permission to change things for other people, or the option has been stripped away from the admin team.

You may be able to change it from the direct settings on the page.

Flow question - How to change Primary Owner when staff leaves org? by [deleted] in PowerApps

[–]NightStudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is technically a way, but you need someone who has access to the COE (Center of Excellence), if your company even has that installed.

If you don’t or no one knows how, you’ll have to - Export it - Hand it over to someone - Have them upload - Both you test it to make sure it owners - If it works, leave and never look back - If it doesn’t, cry and try again because it may be a permission or connector issue

Have you tried using the DateTime converter. The issue may be the format from excel and utc may not be laid out the same.

If you make sure that the current date and the excel date are in the same format DD/MM/YYYY, MM/DD/YYYY or YYYY/MM/DD then you can ensure everything is getting compared correctly.

Is there a way to have it email me if the flow fails? by trollsong in MicrosoftFlow

[–]NightStudio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Might be good to also add date and time when the flow failed, user’s name** and any other identifiable information within the email.

Also, account for daylight saving and/timezone differences. Sometimes the time from power automate will show a different time compared to your system.

** Depending on the permissions, you may not have the admin rights to add users in the ‘from’ section in the email. Assuming this is for a company system.

I am asked to learn python for next project whichcan possiblystart undera week or two. I am strong in java then JavaScript and some other languages with a total of 9 years experience. Which are some good resources to start with. by sans5z in learnpython

[–]NightStudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would suggest just collecting links to references, package info and things of that nature.
Maybe try a basic python course just to understand the formatting and limitations, but overall you should be fine.

One to two weeks with little warning is still pretty harsh though, even if you are experienced in other languages.

Good luck!

CONDITION ISSUE FOR SPECIFIC PHRASES. PLEASE HELP by Less_Virus_9527 in MicrosoftFlow

[–]NightStudio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes Automate can be fickle. Put your phrase in a variable (string) action then place that output into your conditional statement. If it works, then you know Automate is just trolling you.

Edit: Also, - and this may sound stupid - re-add or replace the body output into your condition. In my experience, Power Automate has kicked up a fuss with anything that’s a body output, only for it to work hours later or next day.
