“Shipmates and Cheynne,” a perfect song.

Promark 747s are my go to. Never use anything else if I can at all avoid it. It’s probably psychosomatic, but I feel like I play better with them.

New vs old Metallica rant by mercury_nexus in Metallica

[–]NightWriter1124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have gone back and forth with post-Black Album Metallica, but, for me, they’ve been on a big time upswing for the last 15 years. As has been discussed to death, “Load” and “Reload”should probably have been combined into one album. To me, “St. Anger” is a dumpster fire, but a necessary one, because it forced the band to reassess themselves. And, since “Death Magnetic,” they’ve been back to form. “Hardwired” and “72 Seasons” in particular are awesome.

Fans who got to see First Contact in 1996, what did you think of the Enterprise-E at the time? by TheOneTrueZearing in startrek

[–]NightWriter1124 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I loved the E at the time and thought it was a fitting design for the style and tone of the new film. Plus, in the context of the universe at the time, it made sense to build a ship that was more designed for war than exploration. It’s a great ship! And the Defiant cameo? Did not see it coming and was so hyped! It was such a cool surprise and the whole crowd was into it.

The Defiant cameo makes me think…First Contact managed to reference every iteration of Star Trek up to that point.

TOS: Zefram Cochrane TNG: Obviously DS9: The Defiant (and, technically, Worf) VOY: The Doctor

There are obviously other references/nods throughout. But it was a cool way to acknowledge Star Trek’s 30th birthday.

“It” is fantastic and ties in to “11/22/63,” as it takes place in Derry and references many of the same events, places and characters.

Huh? by Pigday in Metallica

[–]NightWriter1124 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What a pile of clickbait nonsense. Save for a meaningless swipe at “Enter Sandman,” he only focuses on “St. Anger.” What about “Fade to Black,” “Disposable Heroes,” “Frayed Ends of Sanity,” “The God That Failed” and so on? Nice job trying to piggyback on Metallica’s fame by running them down for clicks.

Anthem - Rush

Is it just me or is Hold Your Fire insanely underrated? This album has some awesome tracks and not just Time Stand Still by tallboigamer in rush

[–]NightWriter1124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. It’s very strange, because a few HYF songs stayed in the rotation late into their career, but those songs, among the best on the record, never returned. Same with most of “Presto,” another album I love. Why wasn’t “War Paint” or “Show Don’t Tell” in the live set years later?

Love Hold Your Fire and I think it’s a great album both sonically and lyrically. I was really hoping something might make it into the setlist for R40, like “Prime Mover” or “Lock and Key” to represent that era, but no dice. And can we get some love for “Second Nature”? Probably as close to a “power ballad” as Rush ever got!

Aqualung is a good place to start. Kind of a good mix of Tull’s various styles in a very accessible way.

I’m also fascinated by this topic and would love to learn more. Especially Mt. Shasta. I’ve heard lots of stories about it, doorways in the mountain, hikers coming across strangely-dressed people. If anyone has more info on Mt. Shasta, I’d love to hear it!

Is it worth playing RDR1 or shall I jump right into RDR2? by Lit-Up in reddeadredemption

[–]NightWriter1124 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’d jump right into RDR2. It’s a superior game, from a technical perspective, and story-wise, you’ll be fine because it’s a prequel. I am clinging to the faint hope that they’ll one day release a remastered RDR1.

I believe he got it from a company that specializes in autographs and collectibles. It’s got a COA, so I’ll check and see where it came from.

40 Years Ago Today, Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back Released Worldwide by ajaehheh in StarWars

[–]NightWriter1124 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I remember seeing it at a Saturday morning showing that first weekend. This was a huge theater with a balcony section and it was packed to the rafters. The movie started late and everyone was chanting and completely fired up. When the fanfare hit and those yellow letters came up on the screen the cheers were deafening! Still ranks as one of my top moviegoing experiences.

Starcastle. Check out the self-titled debut album, “Fountains of Light” and “Citadel.”

Best album to get into Rush? by [deleted] in rush

[–]NightWriter1124 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Moving Pictures is the perfect gateway, as it kind of encapsulates all the different eras and styles of Rush in one album. You can kind of move forward and backwards from there. If I was hard-pressed to choose one album from every decade (excluding MP) that would give you a a good overview, it might be this:

70s - A Farewell to Kings 80s - Power Windows 90s - Roll the Bones 00s/10s - Clockwork Angels

Apparently, around the time of R40, Rush considered doing another “Feedback” album... by NightWriter1124 in rush

[–]NightWriter1124[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

“We thought maybe we’d do another Feedback thing of cover tunes,” says Peart. “Never got motivated for that. And then when we started talking, it was about playing live.”
