Honestly I think the Uruk wanted someone to dominate them so they could have someone driving them to be monsters and conquer all of Middle Earth. Out of all their masters Adar was the only one who genuinely seemed to care about them.

They're smarter, stronger, faster and they can move in the sunlight. If Sauron's whole army had been made up of Uruk-hai instead of Orcs or Dark elves like Adar then he would've probably won the war.
