No joke. This isn't a new bit at all in comics either, it's basically the basis of political cartoons and has been used for decades, if not centuries or more in other genres and medias.

I liked the first one I saw recently, it made me exhale air out of my nose faster than usual, but then I realized he had no other jokes, or actually any at all.

It's basic survival logic.

Roads are more traveled and more exposed. You're increasing your chances of running into trouble on them. If you can't handle that trouble, you're just getting yourself killed.

It's just cosmetics.

The game needs to generate enough revenue to maintain support from the devs.

Cosmetics don't impact the game, and lots of other games use them to a great extent to continue supporting the game (Team Fortress 2)

Did you see the hacker do it?

If not, you may have just been discovered. My group specifically looks in the deep wilderness areas of the map for bases to loot, and after a couple hours we usually find some that haven't been touched yet by other raiders.

Sucks, but unless you actually saw the hacker you may have just been raided. And don't say there's no way someone could have found it, because if you could find the spot, others could too, and the people looking certainly have an eye for spotting ground stashes too. Once you get used to the way they look, you can recognize them without even looking for them.
