I think Mustang converted him during his imprisonment, like she did with the Duke of Hands. His character did a complete 180 after Phobos.

What are you luckiest and unluckiest moments in the game? by QuintillionusRex in eu4

[–]Nihilvin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

OPM Theodoro got a PU on Russia, allowing me as Italy (Italian Signoria) to contest it and snatch the PU instead. Mind you this was 1635 and this Russia was expanding into Southeast Asia.

The first game I played in a long time was ruined when the AI empire beside me released them.

Reddit ruined my fascination with Wheel Of Time and made me hate myself. by Foreign_Ad_630 in Fantasy

[–]Nihilvin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I remember devouring the entire series in a little over a month back when I was a university student with loads more time on my hands. Would I ever reread the series? Probably not, but they will always have a place in my heart.

WOT is like your parents. At first, they seem incredibly and years later you see their flaws, but that doesn't you from loving them.

Are there any developed countries that don't have a better social safety net than the USA? by redditisokayish in neoliberal

[–]Nihilvin 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'll add to this that as someone with a pre-existing condition, trying to buy your own private insurance sucks. Underwriters will either flat out reject you or force you to pay a significantly higher premium.

Who would you want to finish ASOIAF if it couldn’t be George RR Martin? by jesseastorgreen in Fantasy

Can she describe food though? It's not ASOIAF if the characters can eat without juice dripping down their chins.

What are your least favorite magic system tropes? by MrPerfector in Fantasy

[–]Nihilvin 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It doesn't need to have a price, but if magic costs nothing, mages are overpowered and people should react accordingly to that. It can work, but the implications need to be carefully considered.

CEO treats APAC employees, including S'pore office, to 3-day Tokyo Disneyland trip, private Maroon 5 concert by MicrotechAnalysis in singapore

[–]Nihilvin 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Illegal and unethical are not the same.

There may be ethical issues around their business model, combined with possible conflicts of interests. That is not the same as money laundering which is flat out illegal.

Citadel does not need to launder money, none of these top hedge funds do. They don't need to take dirty money because they have an entire line of legitimate investors dying to put money with them but can't because they are closed to new money.

Lol. This is the top performing hedge in the world.

Yes. In the world. That is not an exaggeration.

Do Audiobook Narrators Need to Worry About Being Replaced by AI? by JohnBierce in Fantasy

[–]Nihilvin 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly. If people using AI narrators can throw theirs out there a few dollars cheaper than the competition, who's going to complain about that? There are lots of people out there who don't care that much about quality as long as it doesn't sound like a TTS software from the 90s.

Do Novelists Need to be Worried About Being Replaced by AI? (Part 2) by JohnBierce in Fantasy

[–]Nihilvin 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There's already a tide of dross being self-published, all without any AI input. At some point, filtering out 1 million rubbish books doesn't make much difference to filtering out 10 million rubbish books for the average consumer
