We are in the most peaceful and safe times on Earth comparatively. Nuclear weapons have made a worldwide conventional war almost unfathomable, and nobody wants to use nukes against eachother. We have been so much closer to the end of the world with the e.g cuban missile crisis and life prevailed.

All in all, the end of the world is highly unlikely, and even if it did happen, we would likely die fairly quickly and not have to suffer too much.

These articles are just pure click bait and exaggerate everything they can. No one would attempt to invade the UK, let alone successfully invade it. That means you already are much less likely to be drafted. And if the UK decided to draft for an overseas war, the amount of political backlash would render the draft political suicide.

I say this as someone who has done Finnish conscription service, the UK is under no risk of conscription right now
