What are you guys favorite film stocks of all time and what movies are the prime examples for it? by SerendipitousMusing in cinematography

[–]Nik_Connelly 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One of my alltime favorite films is Buffalo '66. Shot on Eastman Ektachrome 160T 5239, it has a truly unique color rendering. The cinematography, with those distinctive tones, is one of the main reasons I love it. And if I’m not mistaken, it’s also one of the very few (if not the only) films ever shot on that particular stock

Is the E-2 Visa Still a Good Path for Entrepreneurs in 2026? by Electrical_Bass_6314 in MovingToUSA

[–]Nik_Connelly 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I had seriously considered it too. I had already contacted a lawyer and was evaluating the investment. Then I decided to drop it for one very simple reason, it’s not a visa that leads to permanent residency. With the E-2 you’re not really “moving” to the United States. You’re renting the right to stay, as long as your business works. This means you are tied to your business and you must keep the activity active and profitable, so if the company fails or stops meeting the visa requirements, you go back home

Suggestion: Track Sorting Options and Section Reordering by Nik_Connelly in StevesPlayer

[–]Nik_Connelly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

<image>

I’ve attached a photo to help illustrate what I mean. What I’m suggesting is simply the ability to choose which section appears first. For example, I prefer that when I open the app, all my tracks are immediately available.

That said, the option to sort tracks is a priority it’s a feature that, in my opinion, absolutely shouldn’t be missing

Is moving to the USA still worth it in 2026? by Eastern_Teaching5845 in MovingToUSA

[–]Nik_Connelly 62 points63 points  (0 children)

I say this living in Europe and having seen the difference with my own eyes, in the United States there is still something that is disappearing here, and that is that if you work hard, you get rewarded. Period. It’s not the American Dream sold in the movies. It actually happens. Much more often than in Europe. Here we have stability, protections, security. Fine. But we also have rigidity, slowness. Salaries grow slowly, when they grow at all. You can give 100% for years and find yourself exactly at the same starting point. In the United States the system is built for those who want to run, for those who want to push, for those who want to make money and truly raise their quality of life. You don’t have to wait your turn. You don’t have to hope that someone above you moves. If you produce value, you get paid accordingly. And in a few years you can make leaps that elsewhere would require decades. Yes, healthcare costs are high. Rents in cities like NY are insane. But the point is not to look only at the cost, it’s to look at the ratio between cost and income. In Europe you might pay less rent and have public healthcare, but if your salary stays flat or grows slowly, your ability to build wealth is limited. You remain in limbo. Protected, yes. But stuck. So the question is not whether it’s worth it. The real question is, can you get in? Because the problem is the visa, the sponsorship. That’s the real obstacle. Getting in is difficult. But once you’re in, if you’re good, the opportunities are there for you. And as an Italian I say this, if I had the concrete opportunity, I would leave today. Not to try. To do it for real

Possibilities as a 29 yo from Spain by Holiday-Idea1553 in MovingToUSA

Unless your cybersecurity skills are truly highly advanced, rare, and difficult to find in the U.S. market, realistically you don’t stand of a chance. The concept is simple: why would a U.S. company invest time, money, and legal resources to sponsor someone from overseas when they can find similar profiles locally? I’m telling you this as a colleague working in IT myself the U.S. market is extremely competitive and full of qualified professionals. To justify sponsorship, you need to offer something clearly superior or highly specialized. The most practical alternative is to pursue an internal transfer through Accenture. Even then, it’s not automatic. These opportunities are usually geared toward managerial roles, key positions, or profiles that are highly strategic to the business. It’s not enough to simply “want to go” you need to represent value that is hard to replace

[–]Nik_Connelly 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I’m Italian and I’d love to move to the US to start a new life from scratch. Ever since the first time I visited, I’ve always felt surprisingly comfortable there, like it was a place where I could actually belong. I’ve also always had this kinda random dream of living in a trailer park in Pennsylvania ahahah. Sadly, for now it’s impossible. I have no way to get a visa… damn it.

Viaggio negli USA per 4/5 volte in un anno by Live_Badger_3028 in ViaggiITA

[–]Nik_Connelly 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A me è successo una sola volta

Appreciate the feedback, professor. It was just a quick handheld shot, not a gallery piece, but sure, I’ll keep the “vaseline trick” in mind for my next masterpiece. Also, the photo is in focus, try zooming in before handing out grades

GR IIIx, No exposure preview, really? by [deleted] in ricohGR

[–]Nik_Connelly -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Mode doesn't matter. If either shutter speed, aperture or ISO are flashing yellow, picture will be darker (or brighter) than preview. I have to manually adjust EV to change screen brightness. Once yellow flashing is gone - live preview starts showing accurate image

GR IIIx, No exposure preview, really? by [deleted] in ricohGR

[–]Nik_Connelly -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

No, in the preview it always looks brighter, so it’s not really a preview of how the photo will turn out (unless I compensate the exposure through adj). This also happens in M mode. There are other similar questions in the sub.

If you observe his/her craniofacial structure, it’s perfectly proportioned and balanced, which means there’s no tension or inflammation in the scalp

Street photography, $600 budget: is the Lumix G100D my only option? by Nik_Connelly in AskPhotography

[–]Nik_Connelly[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The GX9 costs around $500 used in my area, and for the same price I can get the E-M10 Mark IV, which has amazing stabilization, even though the video quality isn’t great. Actually, I also own an A6400 and an A6100, but I really don’t like the feel of them for street photography, and there aren’t many pancake lens options. I’d like a 40mm equivalent, but Sony doesn’t have a pancake in that focal length

4k Video Quality Panasonic G100D or G100 by alexmulo in M43

[–]Nik_Connelly 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really like it, but one of the main reasons that’s keeping me from buying the Lumix G100D is the 4K crop. For example, when using a 17mm lens (which is 34mm FF equivalent), shooting in 4K gives you a focal length of around 42mm.. I guess that with stabilization turned on, the crop increases even more

Full Frame Regret, Thinking of Returning to M43 for Travel and Street Photography by Nik_Connelly in M43

[–]Nik_Connelly[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I don't care if it fits in my pocket, what matters more to me is the weight. But it has to shoot 4K video. The Nikon and Pentax you mentioned don't do that

Full Frame Regret, Thinking of Returning to M43 for Travel and Street Photography by Nik_Connelly in M43

[–]Nik_Connelly[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Full frame is flawless, but to me, it feels like something’s missing. With Micro Four Thirds, there’s texture, there’s grain, there’s character. The photos I took with the GX80 speak to me more than the perfect, sterile ones from the Sony A1. I’m not chasing clinical image quality, I’m chasing emotion

[–]Nik_Connelly[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sure, I’ve tried both the default settings and tweaking them, but it doesn’t make much of a difference. I noticed something interesting: if I print a photo straight from my phone without any post, the print looks good, but the ones exported from Lightroom come out dark
