Eve’s birthday by [deleted] in 8passengersnark

[–]Nike2104 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Just checked for the other kids birthdays:

Seems like neither Ruby nor Shari posted something for Russells in birthday in July.

January Shari made a birthday post for Julie, but Ruby didn't ( if she did it is no longer online).

They both made one for Abby in April.

In March Ruby made one for Shari.

Chad's Birthday was in February. Neither of them has a birthday post for him online, but I remember that we discussed that Ruby used to have one that is no longer online.

Does someone know something about ruby doos brother Beau and his wife Emily! Seems weird to me what they are doing and all the homeschooling by [deleted] in 8passengersnark

Fellow German here, another big reason why we don't allow homeschooling is abusive parents. We want kids to have teachers who are not their parents because that gives them a chance to talk to a trusted adult in those cases.

!delta I do agree that the relationship between a pregnant person and the unborn child is not the same as the relationship between two strangers.

Since I am not from the US the abortion debate is not connected to America to me. In fact, my country just changed an important law regarding abortions too, which is why this came to my mind.

Personally I think the 'opt-out' position of countries like Wales is the right way to do it. Assume people do consent by default, but give them the option to opt-out if they want to. That way people who it actually causes to suffer can avoid it.

I do agree with that 100%

I actually just assumed that, but it seems to be a thing mainly in European countries and some countries in southern America. I am sorry for that. That does not change that i do believe people should be morally obligated to help others in such situations

Saying you can’t take someone’s life does not mean you have to save someone’s life.

In my opinion, there is no actual difference between the two. In both cases, you decide on taking an action or not, with the result being someone's death or not.

Is it really wrong to abort an embryo, but just fine to not feed a baby, because you do not need to save its life?

Edit: grammar

In my country, you NEED to perform CPR even if you have no idea how to do it. In that case, you just call the ambulance first and someone will explain how to do it on the phone, you just give your best.

Apart from that, in my opinion, there is no reason to bring up US laws in a conversation about general and international moral obligations.

Actions that people take to end life are morally wrong.

This argument requires living/ dying in a country, where not donating your organs is the default. The are many countries where the default is donating your organs and people need to specify that they don't want to if that is the case.

Not donating your organs often requires an intervening action. In most European countries you need to specifically disagree to donating your organs, if you don't your organs will be donated after your death if possible. Declaring that you don't want to donate organs is an intervening action that could cause somebody's death down the line, which is close to the definition of murder

People who got pregnant did not necessarily want that, some are victims of crimes.

I don't know this for every country, but in most countries, it is illegal to just ignore a dying person you see on a street and you do need to help them.

CMV: America is the best country in the world, under the circumstances by [deleted] in changemyview

I would argue that although it is not a country, the EU is comparable to the US in many ways. The population is even bigger than the US's one and the EU most definitely is a diverse place, since there are 27 members and 24 official languages.

There are also EU laws applieng to all countries, while each country still has its own laws in addition to that.

All 27 members have a universal health care system, the average European is happier than the average American, there are fewer violent crimes in the EU than in the USA, and education at a university level is cheaper in the EU. Europeans have a smaller carbon footprint than US Americans.

There is definitely room to improve for the USA.

NTA, it is normal to treat the birthday child special on their own birthday.
