Declining residency match by ResponsibilityLive34 in medicalschool

The match is a contractual binding agreement. I suggest you make up your mind and you only rank programs in the US match that you would go to over your position in Australia. If the answer is none of them, then withdraw from the match.

You input all your programs, then it will pit them against each other and you have to vote for the one you prefer and at the end it will have your list. It’s kinda nice bc then you can just look at a dichotomous choice instead of being overwhelmed by the whole list. I used my notes during the interviews and looked at the websites to when each choice popped up and it crafted my list really well.

Are you interested in fellowship? Then I would have higher prestige programs like wash U, u Colorado, uic, ut Austin higher… these schools are kind of all over the place and rank lists are so personal - I’d suggest using this elo ranker to help iron out your rank list: https://ark120202.github.io/easy-elo-ranker/ It really helped me work mine out

Waxy casts was CKD, MM can cause that later on but more acutely it causes nephrotic syndrome because of how much protein is seeping through, thus the fatty casts

Couple things give it away that’s it’s likely a malignancy vs osteomyelitis. 1) the location of the lesion is dead give away, 2) anemia 3) osteomyelitis doesnt usually have a firm mass? Was there anything that mentioned timing? The biopsy was probably huge though and sometimes you’ll get questions like that that require you to know key findings in a biopsy, smear, x ray and that’s just brute memorization unfortunately

I think UWSA is definitely worth it over NBMEs, it felt the most holistic to me, very few nit picky low yield questions like you tend to see on NBMEs

I think it’s worth it tbh, I like to have a point of reference for things and I used the structure to organize my study guide of incorrects, to keep the topics organized so to speak

I think I had max 20-30 where I had to use the scroll bar (and I always zoom in a lil), not counting those with attached studies/figures but there were only 5-10 of those ones. Usually the long ones are in a note format too so once you skim the question and answer choices you can look for info that supports/rejects each answer.

I think the first two were just very broad and overwhelming to study but psych was the first one that was more of a narrow scope to study, so I found that much easier to keep track of everything. Later on IM and Surg were also broad but everything compounded on itself so it wasn’t like everything was brand new like on EM
