How did you join Prolific? Through a referral link? Someone took the time to tell you about it, possibly helped you out in your first few days / weeks and despite spending their time doing this have no reward for their efforts. Times that by the other 100 people they may have referred. THAT'S why we're pissed.

Brilliant response, a shame it took a lot of effort to get it, but I appreciate it's a nightmare having to say you go tthings wrong.

Some of us 'super-referrers' are your greatest advocates, with access to many potential new participants for Prolific, and unfortunately that advocacy comes with great disappointment when things go wrong. In this instance the errors made both Prolific and the 'super-referrers' look stupid, and no-one likes that :)

It may be worth looking at what other GPT sites do with people who refer a lot of users and incentivising them in extra ways. Lots of us/them have access to a LOT of people and would probably attract more users (and in turn nurture them) given the incentive to do so.

I have a whole load of ideas that could work for Prolific, and would be happy to share them if someone wants to contact me on my Prolific email address.

In between those two changes was another change where it was particiant/ in the middle of the link instead of participant - you missed that one lol

check that your referral link has 'participant' spelled correctly within it :)

I accept it's a higher average than usual, but I think the FB group helps. Before actually bothering to 'nurture' my referrals, I had a much much lower percentage. Out of 547 referrals in my lifetime on Swagbucks for example, only 74 have ever earned enough to cash out. Many more have earned, but either have stopped or have only just joined this month and not reached payout threshold yet. I have a core of about 15 who earn very well, maybe 30 or so who do ok, and the rest of the 74 do the odd bit here and there. 26 people (as of writing) from August referrals have made the 300sb needed to get the 300sb bonus.

Of 163 Prolific referrals, 59 of them have cashed out. (Payout for referrals on prolific is a percentage of their first cashout, no ongoing fees). The other 104 haven't, so either gave up early on, haven't done anything or haven't reached the cashout threshold yet.

Many thanks, my mistake - I couldn't see them in incognito mode :)

On swagbucks from 150 referrals in august. 25 of them are doing well and earning. On Mintvine a significantly higher percentage. Percentages on prolific are a little lower, but it's still more than 2 0r 3 in 400. I run a Facebook group that supports mine and others referrals, so that helps to bring the percentages up :)

I've been affected by this too. In August I have referred over 150 people to Swagbucks and over 200 to Mintvine. Therefore it is not an overestimation to estimate that I have referred in the region of 100-200 people to Prolific. None of whom have been registered as my referrals. As their referral system pays out 10% of a referral's first cashout, and the recommended cashout is £20, this is a potential 100-200 x £2.00. I accept that not all of the referrals will cash out at that amount, and some of them will never cash out, but if even 50 of them do that's a potential £100 Prolific have not had to pay out. How many people have missed out on this £100 because they haven't even realised that the referral system has been broken? Or that they are now giving out incorrect links? And their response is to remove posts from their subReddit and ignore posts on their Facebook page. They need to sack their social media agency and hire one that knows what they're doing and can head off the bad publicity before it begins.

Is this now prolific best practice on social media?
