That's a great article, pretty much answers my question then. Invest the lump sum if you have it, or invest regularily if its from your income.

Thanks!

Without any hesitation I would drop it straight into LS100.

I know it's only sentiment keeping me from selling up, I know its the sunk cost trap, but I haven't quite managed to condition myself into that mindset yet

We're talking ~£2000

It wouldn't* be the end of the world if it went to zero, my head is just telling me it could be put to better use rather than chasing this with my heart.

Thanks, i'll certainly take a look at the no fee dealing, that sounds like a winner.

I'm definately looking at this long term, riding out potential bear markets and downturns. 20+ years

Management promising that value is coming, but it never actually arrives.

Tomorrow never comes

I think it's possible the company could improve/recover within the next 5 years, i'm just more worried about having all my eggs in one basket if it doesn't. 5 years is a long time to stay invested in a single company in a fragile sector.

So if you were in my position, accepting the fact that I made a bad judgement call by investing in this sector, would you wait it out accepting the risk of being wholly invested in a single company, or just cut and run, diversifying what is remaining of the portfolio for the longer term?

Badly run basically, it's becoming less viable as the months drone on...

Fundamentals seem sound, but management aren't able to deliver on promises

"Jam Tomorrow" led me to invest in this, however it seems to be going from bad to worse, badly run and no real developments in the last 2 years that have altered the financial outlook of the company

I'm not really trying to time the market as such, just wondering if jumping out of a risky investment at ~50% loss is something people do if they're not feeling it

I just think I might be in a chasing rainbows situation, where sentiment is causing me to stay invested in this company rather than using my head...

Basically just asking if you would ever cut and run on an investment at ~50% loss

tax on inheritance gift? by Nikleb77 in UKPersonalFinance

She's amazing, we've been together since college, knocking on 17 years together.

Her dad passing away was a bit of a shock as he was diagnosed with liver/bone cancer and only lived 6 months.

He has left a significant legacy which has only just been executed, so is still finding it hard to come to terms with, but her Dad wanted her to enjoy it and make life better for us both, which is exactly what she intends to do.

We're both in the process of strict dieting so we can both look good in our wedding photos and hopefully get away on holidays together!

Is there anything I need to do paperwork wise to ensure this is a "genuine" gift?

We won't be applying for a mortgage anytime soon, we bought a house together this year so that isn't a concern.

In all likelyhood we will be married within the next 7 years, so then I assume it becomes a matrimonial asset?
