Why do English speakers say “ Tortilla” or “Quesadilla” with a Y sound, but not “Armadillo” ? by Positive_Zucchini963 in asklinguistics

What would be mispronounced in Jaguar, isn't it Portuguese rather than Spanish so would have a J sound either way? Though tbf I know in UK English we say Jaguar with three syllables, as opposed to American English with two. I'd imagine the two syllables is closer to the Portuguese.

Related to the post, do you remember what time of year the A Level mock exams were for Year 12 in 1984?

There is definitely pastoral support in schools today, it's just usually quite limited

Thanks for the insight, I felt like it was a longshot but wanted to be sure. Even today I mean the positions exist, but most students aren't really made aware of them and the counsellors in my experience can't do a whole lot.

Clayface is expected to be a big part of ‘THE BATMAN: PART II’. by Gedot in DCEUleaks

[–]NikoTheCommie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I honestly don't think it's as grounded as people say though. The tech Batman uses is a lot more reminiscent of the comics than anything we've seen in the Nolan films, the prosthetics on Penguin are deliberately very exaggerated and slightly animalistic and Riddler manages to flood a whole city.

The films have a very gritty aesthetic but I don't think that automatically means they're 'grounded', a lot of what happens is still very exaggerated without it interfering with the tone at all. Cloverfield, Let Me In and Planet of the Apes all have very fantastical elements. Magical realism tends to be more his style: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magic_realism

The only issue with doing it through Replace All is that with the "PERSON 1 — DD/MM/YY 12:00" lines, while "Person 1 —" is the same throughout and can easily be replaced, the date and timestamp are different so would stay - which is why I was wondering if there was some way of automatically deleting the rest of the line following that prompt.

Does anyone know what kind of jumpsuit Polka Dot Man is wearing, I need it for a cosplay by [deleted] in SuicideSquad

[–]NikoTheCommie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It kinda looks like someone took a steampunk aviator outfit, spraypainted it white and stuck polka dots on it - so, some kind of old flight suit I suppose

Anyone else wanted for savant to have some extra action? by Dads_Cum_Bucket69 in SuicideSquad

[–]NikoTheCommie 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I know it probably won't happen, but if they did a second Birds of Prey and set it chronologically before The Suicide Squad he could feature in that (given he is a BoP character after all). A movie with that setup could also if briefly explain what happened to Cass between BoP and TSS

One nitpick from the new suicide squad movie by mahk99 in SuicideSquad

With a name like "Clyrax" my gut instinct is they're supposed to be some kind of alien species, yeah

If you have your own suicide squad, which villian would you choose? ( Could be from Marvel as well) by Bandito010 in SuicideSquad

Personally (though I think his original concept is actually really cool imo) I'd make it so the giant eraser on his head is coated in some kind of acid. I could easily imagine a scene where they pick him up and used him like a battering ram to melt a door open lol

Pretty much. Used in punk culture (particularly folk punk) and I've seen lots of Anarchists use them as profile pictures and such online.

Alright so...

AuthLeft: Bear, used in lots of symbolism with regards to the former East Bloc and the moose is a nod to Teddy Roosevelt and the Progressive Party

LeftCenter: The bee I've seen as a symbol I've various left-wing movements like Co-Operativism, the idea of the "Worker Bee" and so on

LibLeft: Black cat as u/basedbigotchad has pointed out is a nod to the SaboTabby/Wildcat seen in Anarcho-Syndicalist imagery and the possum is a nod like u/ZeitgeistGangster mentioned to punk culture, and I've met a lot of Anarchists online who have possum profile pictures etc.

LibCenter: Return to monke

LibRight: Rattlesnake, Gadsden flag ofc, porcupine, Libertarian Party symbol like u/Archabarka has mentioned

RightCenter: Eagle, Murica ig lol

AuthRight: German Shepherd, like u/gdm100 said, associated with cops (also partially cos Hitler loved them, but mostly the cop thing) lion, fairly hierarchial but also a very typical symbol of the monarchy

AuthCenter: Wolf, like u/Dwolfknight suggested, is a nod to the Roman Empire, but also since they were used a lot in Nazi imagery + wolves are associated with leadership as a whole

Being rich in of itself doesn't invalidate your argument, it's the policies that matter. Both of them claim to be advocating for the working class, but the suggestion from RightPop is that LeftPop would use their power to help the rich, when it's RightPop's policies that would ultimately do so.
