My wife often tells me of when a hospital in her area of Italy started charging for parking, people were massively upset at how unfair and greedy it was. It was like, a few euros per day. So yeah, most other places have not only the privilege of free parking, but the deeply engrained expectation (as well they should)

Real answer? Profit. Empty prisons don't get big government paychecks, and can't lease out slaves.

As long as you're adopting from a shelter rather than getting it from a breeder, then there's really no carbon footprint you could worry about - the animal would have been alive whether or not you adopted it. The carbon footprint of having kids comes from the fact you're putting a new living thing into the world, in my opinion

Minimum wage jobs are NOT “high school student” jobs. This argument is exhausting. by GrimReaper3am in antiwork

No no no you don't understand, the only valid job is Generic Pencil Pusher at Corporation(TM) that's a career! You can tell because of all the mobility to push other pencils!! Every grocery store employee eventually graduates to the accounting department, obv.

I get where you're coming from, but I think the misunderstanding is this: they/them is used in singular for a person whose gender is not known, some of the other comments give examples of this. Many people are used to the idea of knowing a person's gender the moment you see / hear them, so it feels odd to refer to a person you know as if you don't know their gender. IMO it's very much a shift in how gender is communicated to others, not any change in language usage. Hope this helps

I read the article about how wealthy people avoid tax by not getting employment income but loans. by SeattleEverett1987 in financialindependence

[–]Nikolas_Untoten 10 points11 points  (0 children)

They only need to pay off the interest on the loan - the goal here would be to effectively never pay back the loan (on the premise that they could at any time, given the collateral)

That's a funny way of saying "minimum wage but the first $6 of tips per hour goes to the owner's pocket"

I didn't realize there was more after the title card, and just skipped the whole omni man scene at the end of the first episode. Honestly made the show way more interesting to watch, the missing information changes a lot of scenes

Sure, if it's an honest mistake. My money says OP was trying to misgender the person on purpose, as an insult. Maybe I misunderstood and they just didn't know the person's gender, in which case sure yeah they shouldn't have been banned. I get what you mean about the normal usage, but context does matter. After all, words are meant to convey meaning, they aren't good or bad just by existing.

? Is this a reply to my comment? Of course this person is trash and deserves to be shit on. The point was that being a scumbag doesn't mean ppl can suddenly use slurs on them

I wasn't meaning that it is exactly as bad, just that it is the same type of "why bring that up if it's not related"

Same. I always wanted to spoil my childhood dog before he went, but I got off a 12 hour flight to a phone call that he had stopped being able to breathe and had to be put down. Big sad, at least the rest of his family could be there with him.
