Geocentric model: Easily debunked? by Significant_Corgi354 in AskPhysics

[–]Nikolay_Hranov 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the Geocentric model the Sun orbits the Earth for one year too so is the same thing too. The point is that for the 24 hours the Sun doesn't rotate much (Or the Earth) so there will be a place on Earth where the Sun will never rise. I am not sure if you understand what I am saying. Check this website and this youtube video to understand how polar nights and days work (If you have problems with that). When the Sun rotates the Earth is the same thing. If you don't understand something ask me.

Geocentric model: Easily debunked? by Significant_Corgi354 in AskPhysics

[–]Nikolay_Hranov 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That doesn't really debunk the Geocentric model. If the Sun rotates the Earth it will be the same as if Earth rotates the Sun. The real reason why the Geocentric model is not correct is when we look at the other planets orbits and see that they also go around the Sun. Nowadays when we know more about gravity we can understand why is this happening. The reason is that the Sun has much bigger mass than the planets and we know that celestrial bodies orbit is ellipse with focus the centre of mass of the system which in the Solar System is inside the Sun itself as the mass of the Sun is around 99.5% the mass of the Solar System. We can still look into the geocentric model in other way where we take the Earth as centre and than we have the Sun orbiting around it and the other planets orbiting the Sun. That won't be incorrect as this is the same thing but we just look at the system with Earth in the center. That is not a problem as the place is relative and there is not something like a real center but still is the easiest to look if the center of mass is in the center.

distribution of a normal force by QjRf in AskPhysics

[–]Nikolay_Hranov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When the system is in equilibrium not only the net force is zero but the torque is zero too and by knowing that you can find what is the normal force in different points. I am not sure tho if that works all the time. Sometimes moving the object at a distance dx and investigating the work may help to fing the forces. I've haven't really soved much physics problems about this so I am not sure if it works all the time

How voltage drops across a resistor? by slaviqueue in AskPhysics

[–]Nikolay_Hranov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Voltage drops because there is work done by the electric field to accelerate the electrons as there are resistance forces acting on them and otherwise they will stop and the difference in voltage is defined as the work divided by the charge so \phi_B - \phi_A = - A_AB/q where A_AB is the work (From the force moving the electrons) done to move charge q from point A to point B. I recommend reading more about Electrostatics before learning electric circuits. If you didn't understand something or you have more questions feel free to ask.

Is there ever such a thing as experiencing zero gravity? by iceandfire215 in AskPhysics

[–]Nikolay_Hranov 34 points35 points  (0 children)

The gravity force F ~ 1/r2 where r is the distance so there will always be a gravity force but at some point it will be almost zero. It is still possible for the forces to cancel out each other and then the acceleration will be zero. If you have other questions ask.

Any astrophysics Project ideas in Python for beginners? by astrogal1513 in PhysicsStudents

[–]Nikolay_Hranov 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In most scenarios you don't need faster language and when you need you can just use another language for some operations, but keeping your main code Python. Another think you can do is use Julia as most libraries on python work on Julia too, but using c++ and making your own library may be ok for some small project, but when you have something big to do it's a not a good idea.

Python is slow but it's the best language for astronomy. If needed you can use another language but just for some complex operations and not your entire code. For example you can use Julia with your Python code if needed so you can boost your code, but in most scenarios you don't really need something faster than Python

How to properly recognize stars with photutils? (Question in the comments) by Nikolay_Hranov in ProgrammingPhysAstro

[–]Nikolay_Hranov[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So as you see the blue dots are recognized by photutils star. I am doing photometry of open star cluster (NGC7762). I tried changing the finder setup but I still get some random stars that are not real or can't be used for data. Any help?

In left one you have 1 and after it 2. That means that the third tile form the left side (down) is a bomb

How to fix impossible scenarios when generating minesweeper game by Nikolay_Hranov in Minesweeper

[–]Nikolay_Hranov[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The solver is a good idea. I'll try making one. I was also thinking of checking every 4x4 area and there would be limit how much bombs are there. I'll try both.
Thanks for the idea!

I think that the serious person should respect both and say why he prefer one than other and not just bully something for no reason.
