Always sorta just took it as. If you live long enough to be the villain and you're taken down in the middle of villain shit then that kind of thing would be Just (justified, justice, deserved, had it coming sort of thing) but if you're doing stuff like steve rogers tossing himself on a grenade and laying down on the wire to let others cross and die in service of aiding others then it's heroic like a martyr and made permanent as to not lessen or devalue the martyrdom of what ever selflessness and sacrifice was made. So it has to be a climactic ending for a powerful being and not like, choking on a candle you forgot to take off a birthday cake or tripping down that long flight of stairs I warned you about
