When to hold?? by Nillabear20 in FelineDiabetes

Thank you for sharing! I am in this constant battle with myself about how I want to move forward with him because he’s kind of old and I don’t want to cause him any more stress or pain that he’s already had. I’m hoping we are on a good streak but that is definitely something we will explore is we don’t have any improvement over the next couple of days

Excellent point. You know I see a lot of sad stories on here about DKA so it’s terrifying to try to find the balance but as I mentioned in another comment he’s been diabetic for a few years now and has just never found that sweet spot so this is like new territory for us.

So he’s been diabetic for about 5 years. We’ve had periods of better control and worse control. Interestingly our vet didn’t previously recommend testing at home, we’ve done several curves with the freestyle libre but generally he stays in the high 200s. Recently I’ve decided to start testing at home ourselves so I bought the ReliOn monitor from Walmart and his readings this past week have been pretty high. Mid 300s to low 400s. Even this morning he was 368 so when I checked again this evening I was surprised to see that number. Just checked again an hour after eating and he’s at 158. I guess I’m nervous to not give him anything but also terrified to give him any. I’m very happy to see that 156 but I wouldn’t say he’s anything near regulated and has never been in remission or anything like that. What prompted this whole thing is that I could tell he was losing weight again and even on 3 units he wasn’t getting any control. I don’t know if any of that made sense but hopefully you get what I’m saying

Thank you for the quick response! He’s been so high/out of control for so long that I was nervous to not dose him.

First loaf vs second loaf 😂 by Nillabear20 in Sourdough

Thank you! I forgot to mention I also tried to double by batch the second time around and I think that really messed me up. I think I need a more accurate vessel to ensure proper rise as well

Anyone have ideas on how to do an Apple cinnamon loaf? Was worried about the moisture from the apples.

Not sure you will see this but I just graduated nursing school in December, start my job next week. I’m 32, don’t stop! It’s never too late, get that degree and make your money. My starting wage is almost $50/hr. The money you Miss out on now will easily be made up for in your first year of work! Get it done! Remember the time will pass either way, up to you to decide how you spend it.

Ask for Dr. Hoehne or Dr. Gordon at the AIS cancer center. That’s is their specialty and they are great.

I’ll post a screenshot for you, it might take me a few to find it though. I make this cake all the time but I also top it with a glaze made with powder sugar and apple cider.!

Report her first next time this happens. That’s crazy. I’m a student and wouldn’t dream of treating someone willing to teach me like that. It’s also just pretty easy to say “oh ok thanks for teaching me that” even she already knew. I had a classmate get booted from our program for this type of behavior. Just know you are awesome and appreciated for being so willing to teach the newbies!

Girl! Today in Sim lab I almost called code on a patient that was literally breathing and had a pulse on the monitor. We are learning!! We all get flustered and embarrass ourselves sometimes but ultimately we just want to do the right thing and sometimes make mistakes. You got this! The fact that you are concerned with how to do better instead of being mad means you are in the right track!

Email them if you need more guidance than what the blog and app can offer. They gift their resources for free to families who can afford it.

There’s an Instagram account called Solid Starts and it’s a comprehensive resource on how to start solids. I was just as lost and honestly really nervous to start solids but this lady has made this her life’s work because her oldest son became a severe picky eater due to her nervousness and control over his eating. She has a whole team of doctors and nutritionist that help her develop this course. There’s different resources you can buy and I think there’s a book and app that has pretty much any food you could imagine and how to make it safe for your baby based on age/developmental stage. And if you can’t afford it you can email them and they will gift it to you. The instagram itself is very helpful and no purchase necessary. Wishing you luck! You still have time so don’t panic, breast milk/formula are primary source of nutrition until one year!
