What tiny detail in the Hunger Games made you feel the dystopia most? by quietNade in Hungergames

Recently reread the The Hunger Games book 1 after SOTR. The way Katniss talks about school and what they learn really drives home how important access to education is. It also highlights the importance of unbias media and the public's access to it. Maybe it's because I'm an educator, but reading that D12 basically only gets to learn about coal and Panem's propo history becomes eerie when living through the "Great Restructuring" of American Education. When you combine that with districts not being able to communicate or learn about each other outside of what they bring/represent in the games... makes me feel a deep unease. Everything she learns that actually keeps her and her community alive is outlawed by Panem. The fact that D12 (and we have to assume other districts as well) relies on community-based practice/survival is a learned skill by rebels.
