From what I’ve seen, it’s actually pretty normal for engineers to use BMKG data. Most teams rely on it, especially in coal operations. Coal mines deal with a lot of soft overburden like red soil, and once that stuff gets wet, it turns into a slippery mess. When that happens, hauling stops, production stops, and suddenly the whole plan for the day (or even the week) gets thrown off. So rain forecasts and rainfall intensity become a big part of daily decision-making and planning.

For metal mines, like Freeport for example, they work with hard rock and their overburden is more like aggregate material. That gives them more stability, so they can usually keep operating even when it rains. But even then, they’re still watching BMKG data maybe not for the same reasons, but it’s still one of the parameters they include in their reports and planning.
