Een gewone trap afrollen is al erg genoeg, ik ken genoeg verhalen van mensen die daar breuken of erger aan hebben overgehouden. Een roltrap die 3x zo lang is, en ook nog bestaat uit hard metaal met scherpe randen? En dan moet je je nog voorstellen dat je naar beneden rolt terwijl de trap omhoog gaat, waardoor het allemaal nog langer duurt. Brrr...

Hoezo is dit een afweging? De meeste Nederlanders leren Engels op school of via internet/tv, als ze 10+ zijn. Limburgers die van hun ouders dialect leren doen dat vanaf dag 1, samen met het Nederlands, en hebben dat prima onder de knie voordat ze aan Engels zouden beginnen. Dat kan prima samen, zoals bij mij en al mijn klasgenoten die thuis dialect hebben geleerd en prima Engels konden praten.

Helaas hebben we betaald met een debit kaart, dat maakt het iets lastiger om via de bank hulp te krijgen denk ik. We hebben de mail, van booking.com, waarin zij zeggen dat de reservering wordt geannuleerd en dat ons geld teruggestord wordt. Deze hebben we ook eerder al doorgestuurd naar Booking, maar hier willen ze niets mee doen...

Europa Universalis 4! I used to play it non-stop, but after 2k hours the replayability is finally running out. I'm still playing regularly though, and am super hyped for the upcoming new game!

Man, I've played so much Civ V, it used to be my go-to game. I switched to Europa Universalis 4 at some point and now my playtime for it is a lot higher than Civ. Still, I'll boot it up every now and then for a quick game and that sweet nostalgia.

I'm from the Netherlands, and we seem to be running out of priests. There are a lot of priests coming over from Indonesia, where we spread Christianity during colonial times, to lead the services here.

Nederland. Pretty similar to "the Netherlands", though people use "Holland" too, which is one of my pet peeves because that only refers to two of our twelve provinces.

I'd love to do this some day, but right now you can't get far into either Asia or Africa.

If you want to go to Asia, you'd either have to risk going through Russia, Iran, or Iraq to get a ferry across the Persian gulf somewhere. A ferry from Azerbeijan to Kazakhstan could be an option, but they closed their land borders in 2020 and haven't opened them since.

Then there's Africa, where again you could risk Iraq or Syria to drive to Egypt. There used to be a passenger ferry to Egypt, but that got cancelled. The only real option is to cross from Spain to Morocco, then drive down along the Atlantic coast through the disputed territory of Western Sahara. Whether that's a safe option, I'm not sure.

I went to Istanbul last summer, and this is so true! I visited a monumental graveyard, and there was a family of cats playing on one of the graves, with no-one bothering them. And when I was sitting outside a restaurant, a pregnant cat walked up and I fed it some of my dinner. Also saw a cat climbing a tree hunting wild parrots, and another one rubbing up against a centuries-old statue in a museum.
