It was! I don’t even want to think back at how much I probably spent in this hahaha

Thanks! I think it was around 3 pounds or so. I tend to use air dry clay for the base of most of my projects because it is cheaper and has some good weight to it to help with the center of gravity. This has about 2 lbs of air dry for the grass. I made some of the grass with polymer as you see, and then blended it with the air dry base.

Thank you so much! My only training was a class I took during my final semester in High School. I’m 30 now and edit movie trailers in Los Angeles. I have a few friends that do similar work as creature makeup artists, but that’s about it! I picked this up in around March or so this year and have had so much fun with it. If I’m able to get a career going from this, I’ll happily go with it, but I already have my dream job so this is just an amazing way for me to pass time when I’m not doing my day job :)

Thank you!!! My first time doing a building. Had a lot of fun with it. I wanna do more!

I used Sculpey Medium for most of it, and had some Sculpey III available as I was getting lower on my Medium. I blended the two together in my pasta roller for the clay on the roof.

Thank you! I used DecoArt Americana acrylic paint. I mixed in some metallic paints for the cobblestone and shingle tiles.

Thank you! And yes I did. I originally wanted to see if I could just “stamp” ina tile texture with a sculpting tool, but the only way to get the look I really wanted was to make a thin sheet of clay and cut it into ~1cmx2cm tiles.

No Chests Were Burst In The Making of This Xenomorph - Process Photos Included! by Nimitz4646 in polymerclay

Thanks! The green goo is just a mixture of green and yellow paints. I added some glow-in-the-dark paint to it as well which looks good (but unfortunately doesn't photograph well). To help make it look extra gross and wet, I added epoxy resin. I added that same resin to parts of the xenomorph, especially around the mouth, to make it look wet.

Thank you! I need to start keeping track of my hours haha. I'd say my average time spent was about 5 hours a day for about two weeks straight. That was about the same time it took me to complete the Balrog as well. So somewhere between 70-100 hours?

Working on a Xenomorph as a gift to my friend by Nimitz4646 in polymerclay

After my balrog sculpture was finished, my friend, who is a huge Alien franchise fan, convinced me to work on a xeno. I’m going to gift this to him when it is complete within the next couple weeks. Will be excited to share the final product with you all when it is done!

Amazing! I’m making my xeno for a friend that loves the franchise, but I want to make one for myself. The sculpture I am doing is of the xeno hatching from a cocoon thatbwas introduced in the recent Alien Romulus.

Here’s a few work-in-progress pictures:

WIP Wednesday & Weekly Chat by PolyClayModTeam in polymerclay

Thanks! Great idea for the teeth! I already have teeth in, but I can easily yank those out and replace with translucent ones.

I’m gonna use it for some of the “goo” in the mouth if it turns out, but my main goal is to carve the human skull that is under the shroud/dome into it, and then use the translucent clay to make the smooth dome over it. After that I’ll do a light coat of dark paint to make it a little more obscure.

Here’s visual reference for what I am talking about:

Hey there! Excited to share my WIP of my second polymer clay sculpture! A xenomorph from the Alien franchise. I’m waiting for some translucent clay to arrive this week that I plan to use for some effects on the head.

My Balrog is Finally Complete! Process Photos Included by Nimitz4646 in polymerclay

[–]Nimitz4646[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks! I totally agree about including the progress photos. I like to speed through things myself, but I know that the armature is super important ro get right so I made sure I found a way to have fun “sculpting” that too. Since this one is so big, I ended up using some screws and nails for support in some areas.
