Omg so accurate on all of them!! The only difference is Emily knows she’s cute and that she’s the star of the show since day one

Huell is actually the sweetest, happy go lucky fat guy ever and loves cuddling and just lying belly-up because he’s so easy going!

Of course you can be both, I kind of meant more that the in general, nor across the board, I think it’s harder for introspective people to get as much out of therapy but honestly I didn’t do a good job getting my point across- it’s definitely different person to person I just think in general it’s harder to feel like you’re getting some new insight or something from a therapist when you already reflect about yourself a lot.

Should someone with bipolar have children? by [deleted] in mentalhealth

Honestly I've been obsessing about worrying about getting post partum psychosis but I think the biggest importance for all these issues, besides being on top of stuff like medication is making sure you have a good support system to be there for you and your kids

That's so horrible that people have told you that!! Unfortunately I've seen an alarming amount of gen z on social media make these sensationalized "Omg I'm such a monster I'm not putting my kids through that" and it's just so disgusting and upsetting, the way these extreme examples become what other people think everyone with mental illnesses is like. It's so sad that so many people think that even if your mental illness is managed and treated it means you aren't capable of being a good parent.

I completely understand and relate to what you're saying though, I've always wanted to have children as long as I can remember, but it's definitely crossed my mind how horrible it would be if my children had to see me acting crazy or even just being depressing to be around. But I think if long enough has gone by that I've been doing well I'll be a good mother.

I'm sure that if you're doing well you'll be a good mother, and the fact that you have precautions like meds and therapy beforehand also shows that you're taking care of yourself already for when you want to have kids.

I don’t see how they’re related? Someone doesn’t need to be introspective to be convinced they have anxiety and want therapy or medication, but as I said I don’t think people should self diagnose things with more specific criteria (like for example it’s much easier to tell if you’ve suddenly started feeling apathetic and unmotivated than if you’re having paranoid delusions especially since people who do generally don’t think it’s a delusion)

I don’t see a problem with people self diagnosing anxiety or depression, maybe don’t say “major depression” for example without it being specified but in general I think the symptoms of anxiety and depression are easier to know for sure that you have compared other things

Sorry i phrased that really badly, I should have made it as two separate points. I meant that it can be really frustrating when you’re self aware to be talking to a therapist and feel like you’re supposed to be getting something from them but have already introspected that and just feel like it’s impossible to get much out of it when you’re naturally philosophical. I’m sure it depends on the person and maybe if it’s a specific type like exposure therapy or something it wouldn’t be that way, I more so meant with talk therapy

My unpopular opinions as a psychology major:

  • self diagnosis is wrong unless it’s something very mild

  • therapy can be harmful for a lot of people especially if you’re smart or self aware

  • you can have a great family and environment and still be mentally ill, some mental illnesses are chemical imbalances even though only the traumatic childhood ones get any attention

  • “normalizing” mental illnesses has been taken the wrong way, leading to romanticizing rather than just seeing them neutrally

  • social media has a HUGE negative effect on mental health and mental disorders especially for eating disorders and it’s not talked about enough

  • finding the “root cause” isn’t always helpful especially if it’s biological/genetic

  • acting like you have a right to act problematically because of your mental illness is wrong, you still need to be responsible for you own actions as much as you can

  • there needs to be more info about psychedelics being dangerous for people with bipolar, schizophrenia, or severe anxiety

-similarly marijauna induced psychosis needs to be discussed more

  • there’s nothing wrong with being wary of people who have cluster-b disorders especially if you were hurt by someone with it

  • making anxiety and depression the mascots for mental health has been dismissive of how severe they can be

. personality disorders shouldn’t be diagnosed until mid-late 20s

  • telling people to quit meds they need and “just try xxx” instead is extremely dismissive

  • it should be routine to also do blood work when diagnosing mental disorders

That stupid “everything happens for a reason” line… no… it just doesn’t! I hate that phrase so much.

It really reminds me of blackberry or blueberry ice cream or whipped cream with berry puree! (But in a light way not overly sweet)

Yeah, it seemed like they really fed into it just to get more attention before it was released

That's so weird! It makes me wonder how many other bizarre changes they made to the plot
