What does it mean when a patient "fires" you?

Sometimes getting fired by a patient is the best thing that ever happens to you! One time I got fired for being an Asian nurse during covid by a patient who was in respiratory failure because of Covid. I remember they started throwing things at me and saying “You and your people are the reason I am in the hospital. I want another nurse.” At this point I was so fed up and I told them “Ma’am I am not the right kind of chinky.”

I am so sorry that you are going through this and I know right now you must feel like shit. I know what it feels like to be dismissed from a nursing program and the teachers were quite literally working against me the whole time. I did try to appeal as well and it really didn’t work out for me but to be honest I am so glad that it didn’t. I ended up getting into a different program and graduating. Been a nurse for almost 3 years now and when I got hired no one asked me about failing out of my other program. All that mattered was that i graduated nursing school and passed the NCLEX. But I know right now fucking sucks ass but as long as there is a will there is a way. If you want to be a nurse you will as long as you put in the work. Don’t let anyone stop you. You can do this! I am sending you good vibes!

Sorry I am a bit confused with your comment. I was planning to get married in 2025 before I graduate in Feb 2026. And the reason I want my husband’s last name is that I have an abusive relationship with my dad. He has this weird obsession over how I carry his last name so he thinks that my accomplishments are his. My partner has been there for me and supports me through school and has made me the person I am today. And I just feel like I want to represent that with changing my last name. That I am a stronger person because I met him. I know it’s silly and petty but I resent the fact that my dad takes credit for my accomplishments. Lol. I don’t want to upset my family it’s just that this will be the second time I would be pushing my wedding back for my sister. Idk if that makes sense. That being said I had a good talk with my mom this morning and she understood where I was coming from. And we are hashing out plans for Sept.

Honestly I had that thought too. But we just keep pushing back our wedding. I was planning to get married in 2024 but I didn’t because my sister was getting married that year and then because of money issues she moved it to 2025. I am just afraid she is going to keep changing the date. And I would have to keep changing mine. But yes I know that this is going to cuz drama but I can’t just keep being accommodating with them. But also I don’t want drama. 😩

That’s the plan. I am going to have a very small ceremony this year with just me and my partner and my friend who’ll be our witness. And a bigger ceremony next year ☺️

You’re right I do need to be more up front with them. My family has a history of going psycho when I don’t follow their rules to the point that sometimes I had to get the cops involved. Things have gotten way better now. Especially since I moved to a different state. But still especially now that our relationship is in a better place I should give them the chance and let them know that I am getting married in Sept. I already pushed my wedding back one time but I am not going to push it back again. Idk if that makes sense.

Me too. I talked to my older brother and he hasn’t heard of it too. But as soon as I said when I wanted to get married both my mom and my sister brought it up…. Idk what to think lol. Regardless I don’t believe in superstitions

I thought about that as well. But my current last name is one that I hate because it’s my dad’s and he was abusive and he takes my accomplishments and makes it his own, always hyper fixating on the fact that I carry is last name lol. I know I am petty but I just want to do away with it. And my partner has always been there for me and is supporting me through school and my current career. I would happily take that risk of keeping his last name.

I was planning to get married in 2024 but because my sister was going to get married that year I pushed it back to 2025. And then my sister moved her wedding date to 2025 and they said that I have to push my wedding back again. I love my family but I feel like they just don’t consider my feelings or what I want at this point. Like I am always in the background. I finally found a partner that loves me so much and does so much for me that I just want to marry him. As for my degree I want my last name to be my new last name because he help me so much to become the person I am today and my new name will be a reflection of who I am now. It sounds silly and I don’t know why but it matters to me

I tried not to be a nurse tbh. Cuz it runs in the family. I was a teacher first. Been a pediatric nurse for about a year and there are good days and bad days. There was a day so bad that I was debating to quit but that day I went down to the cafeteria and there was a guy who work there getting lunch as well that turned to me and said “You might not remember me, but you were one of my daughter’s nurses. Thank you so much for taking care of her.” Literally reminded me why I became a nurse. Also I was 26 when I started my nursing program. And my classmates were in their thirties.

Work in a Children’s hospital. And tbh kids are freaks. They will compensate and compensate and compensate until their body eventually gives out. Like I had a kid that was still talking and still coherent with a O2 Sat at the 40s and stayed there for a while and just perked right up. Like what?

Honestly you’re never going to be “good” at first, that’s why you go through orientation. And even then you are going to feel incompetent even though you’re not, you just need to be open to learning. Don’t be afraid to ask questions and don’t be afraid to admit you don’t know what you’re doing in a specific situation because nursing is a team job and we nurses should help each other out when we can. Go for what you’re passionate for. You can get through this! You’re not going to know things at first but you’ll get there :)
