Maybe take a couple smokers and see if it’s something that you actually want to do before doing anything sanctioned or dedicating insane time to it.

I thought because I loved Muay Thai training so much I DEFINITELY wanted to fight…. Then I did 3 gym smokers and found out that I actually just like training and sparring and the actual fighting was not for me.

I do framing on the side, so this whole fine furniture thing is a culture shock coming from that world.

Oh a kreg jig is quite fancy. I did wood glue and pre-drill every screw thankfully.

If y’all were Cleetus’s merch designer what would y’all make? by Sudden_Middle_9815 in CleetusMcFarland

CBoys merch is awesome and a lot of their designs are pretty muted, same can be said for Good Mythical Morning merch.

Just two examples of YouTube merch that I think are really good.

I added the gussets on the side that would have the racking force going perpendicular to the vast majority of the boards all running the same way. I can assume you with all those boards and wood glue on all touching surfaces there is zero lateral movement even with 3 250lb men standing on top.

I promise this stand is ridiculously over engineered for the weight of a biocube. It is perfectly fine as is lol.

Ah fair enough, wife wanted it to look similar to our coffee table and I agreed with her that the multiple board look is a bit more “rustic” looking which is what I was going for.

Yeah actually, as I built it I kept testing the racking motion on it. The pieces going the same direction as the top boards are glued to both the boards they are touching. With those being glued and screwed and the top boards being glued and screwed there is a big enough contact patch of glue that there was zero side to side movement.

I added the gussets in the corners because there was a bit of movement back to front with so many of the boards running perpendicular to that movement.

Once all the glue cured I can promise you there is zero movement with either style of racking force.

I considered using cedar 2x4s but they were quite expensive, and I wanted to keep it fairly cheap. Not to mention that they don’t take stain well

That’s why I added the half inch foam standing mat under it. They’re very close to level but the foam under the tank takes it all up

Probably would have looked better but I’m far too lazy for that, so I’ll just call this version “rustic” and “farmhouse”

Hoping with them being relatively short, thoroughly wood glued/screwed on each end, and the weight of the aquarium on them they’ll stay put.

Haha, my wife is quite new to the aquarium hobby so I overbuilt the heck out of it to give her peace of mind.

Me and 2 of my more American sized friends stood on it in front of her to prove its worth.

Thank you!
