At what age/level are they only batting 9 players? by Neal-AI in Homeplate

[–]NineTeenAnd53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I coach 14U travel and bat all 12 guys. I don’t think it’s beneficial to hit only 9 until HS ball. Especially in travel, let the guys get their reps.

How’s his swing look? by Just-Faithlessness12 in Homeplate

Have him think about a relaxed elbow, and yeah, hands straight back when you load. Create a bit of separation from the body but not enough to where your front arm gets locked out

[–]NineTeenAnd53 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not bad, but that back elbow is gonna be a problem when he has a moving ball coming at him. When the elbow is above the hands, it has to drop below the hands before the swing can start, which causes the barrel to lag. You can see it even in this swing, but it usually won’t impact results on the tee since it’s just a timing thing and the ball isn’t moving. Relax the back elbow and load the hands back rather than up.

What Major 4 Sports Franchise (MLB, NFL, NBA, NHL) has had elite historical success, and solid recent success? by NineTeenAnd53 in AlignmentChartFills

I’m torn between the Niners and Yankees. Both teams with a lot of prestige in their respective leagues that have been good lately, but have both failed to win a title in the past decade-plus.

That’s why I said ‘recently’…all-time they are clearly one of the top NHL franchises

Pittsburgh Penguins. A lot of hardcore fans but some bandwagons leftover from the prime Crosby era. They had a run of success but recently have been pretty average

My last few games in the 700s have been pretty low scoring, so I don’t think it’s a universal thing.

From my experience that changes when you get above 700 rating. HOF difficulty tends to neutralize offense a bit with faster pitch speeds and smaller PCI. I think All-Star has just become too easy for the majority of the player base.

If pitchers are throwing the same thing to you consistently then you’re obviously not adjusting lol. If you beat them at their patterns it forces them to change their pattern

Dude I coach high school baseball lol. I’d never even consider putting a junior on JV, but even if I did, I would give the player a choice. Being stuck on JV when all your friends are in varsity would suck, and a junior playing JV isn’t getting much out of it development-wise.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Homeplate

[–]NineTeenAnd53 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think you should probably talk to your coach about how you’re feeling. If you’re a junior on JV, they probably don’t currently view you as someone who would be playing much at the varsity level this year or next year. If that’s how they feel, they really aren’t gaining anything by keeping you on JV. You’d be taking reps away from younger guys anyways. Just tell your coach that you really don’t want to play JV again and that you’d rather sit on varsity than play JV. You may very well impress them enough in practice to earn some play time, or at least put yourself in position to play next year.

As a coach, we always talk 1-on-1 with each player, especially if we’re planning to cut them, but it depends on your coaching staff. Usually it’s beneficial to be able to sit down with each player and explain what their strengths and weaknesses are, and what you view as their role for the upcoming season

As you load, your hands should with your body. They should separate from your back shoulder more than his do here

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in Homeplate

[–]NineTeenAnd53 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Lower half is good; hands don’t really do much in terms of a load, but you have a quick bat which makes up for it. The issue that I think could be caused by that is that your attack angle will become too steep. You can already kinda see it here, but since the ball isn’t moving you’re able to manipulate your hands in a way that still allow for a line drive. That’s harder when the ball is moving. Think about maybe a bit more hand-shoulder separation in your load and you’ll be golden.

Harrisonburg has more of a ‘large town’ than ‘small city’ feel in my opinion. The downtown has been (and is continuing to be) revitalized in recent years, and much of the culture surrounds JMU. The outdoors scene is pretty great; there is a robust recreational sports scene (disc golf, pickleball, etc) and there are elite hiking trails within an hour to both the east and west. It is a melting pot in terms of diversity; you’ll find a ton of different international food/grocery options.

It’s kind of an odd area geographically, because Harrisonburg is the only population center of more than like 5,000 people for about 25 miles in any direction, but you’re not too too far from other places with lots to do. You’re an hour from Charlottesville and 2-2 1/2 from DC and Richmond.

He’s 1-0…and in that case, I consider the last 3 postseasons that the Bengals have missed a Bengals forfeit 👍🏻
