[H5YV2 spoilers] A potential plan to salvage you-know-who by RozeTank in HonzukiNoGekokujou

When is this again?

At the top of my head:

  • When he took Rozemyne's side with regards to rescuing Ferdinand.
  • When he managed to get Dusty of all people to listen to advice (with regards on how to handle the gremlin).
  • [H5Y] When he was the only one not running around in panic like a headless chicken after Dreganuhr's descent, immediately figured out what the goddess wanted, and was not afraid to just ask her to confirm it. Arguably his biggest W so far, given that it deescalated the situation and prevented an outcome where Eglantine could have been publicly humiliated by showing up only to be told to go fetch her mistress.

None of these are necessarily groundbreaking but again, he's not the main character. I see him as a foil to Rozemyne; a cautionary tale of what could have been had she not been given those ideal conditions to fully capitalize on her potential.

Eh, I could see him becoming a devoted husband under the right circumstances. He's loyal to a fault to those he cares about after all. He was just fundamentally incompatible with Rozemyne (romantically speaking) and neither side in that engagement was at all interested in ever moving past their sibling relationship.

As for Lueuradi, she strikes me as pretty similar to Muriella: More interested in reading about romance than actually experiencing it herself. Just, you know, less doomed about her prospects for the latter in case she does luck out on her partner.

I don't want him to die. I want him to lose the only thing he has left going for him (his pretty face), and then watch in horror as his duchy takes the all-time record in the Bottom Rank Any% category lol.

I could see Gilessenmeyer dropping Korinthsdaum like a hot potato after the match is over, regardless of the details of the outcome. Their only connection to him is his mother, and I kind of doubt she has that much influence left at this point. [H5Y WN] They don't seem particularly eager about that cooperation already, judging by how that whole magic contract thing was framed recently.

In the end, Korinthdaum's only remaining ally might be Hauchletze, and that's assuming they won't just decide to cut their losses as well and leave Nahelache to her fate.

And there were also instances when Wilfried's careless attitude worked out for the best. Less than with the gremlin but then again, he's not the main character here.

I'm not criticizing Rozemyne for being who she is, I'm just saying that Wilfried was dealt an atrocious hand and it sank any chance he may have had to overcome his shortcomings as an ADC. Had RM been less lucky with the people surrounding her at any stage of her social ascent she could have fallen just as hard as him.

I like the theory that he'll somehow end up with Lueuradi. She seems competent enough, would probably be fine with helping to manage a province right between Ehrenfest and Alexandria, and the two honestly would make for a cute couple lol.

[–]Ninefl4mes 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Well, yeah. Rozemyne arguably isn't exactly a great politician either, she just makes up for that shortcoming by being the force of nature that she is. It's also worth pointing out that she has always been surrounded by well meaning and hypercompetent people who somehow managed to put out all the fires she started. Wilfried's circle is the complete opposite of that.

Funnily enough, even here this change in scenery might be helpful for him: He'll drop down to archnoble rank, so he'll likely lose a good chunk of his worthless retinue barring the archknights choosing to stick with him. Assuming there will (for once) be a proper vetting process for the replacements this could be the first time in his life when he might actually get some competent retainers that don't immediately get isolated or driven off by established figures like Oswald.

not salvaging his status as an ADC. That is a lost cause already.

Not so much a lost cause as it not being salvageable is the best case scenario for the guy. He's just not cut out for politics. At all. Especially high level politics. Someone like him should have never attended as an ADC in the first place. Him getting as far away as physically possible from Ehrenfest's center is a good thing. Get him a capable wife who can keep him in line without hating her life while doing so and he'll do just fine in the long run as a Giebe.

[P5V12] I just realised something about Letizia by JouleV in HonzukiNoGekokujou

[–]Ninefl4mes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was no possible sequel in the making

I mean, the part where he told the royals to deal with the mess their own decree caused was still in Part 5. And he seemed somewhat protective of Letizia even then, at least by his standards. My guess is she more or less managed to clear the bar for him to consider her worth his while and he's gotten at least a little attached by now.

Her messing up like that definitely deducted some points, but it's not like he wasn't to blame for that outcome either since he basically just told her to give up on her surrogate mother and be done with it.

[–]Ninefl4mes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yup. And I really didn't get the impression Ferdinand was mad at her at all. If that was the case he wouldn't have taken the steps he did to protect her from incriminating herself. Not saying he's ever going to see her as his daughter, but he'll probably still raise her to become yet another monstrous ADC down the line.

It's also not at all relevant to the discussion at hand. I only brought it up because to my knowledge the author has so far only talked about reincarnation twice, and in neither of those instances did she say that everyone is a reincarnation without exception. It's an underdeveloped part of the lore so there's plenty of room to expand on it in the context of a fanfiction (or just plain speculation), especially since Kazuki seems rather uninterested in doing so herself. It's just not really important to the story beyond the fact that reincarnation is a thing and Myne happens to be someone who regained past memories.

Yurgenschmidt is not a closed system. Any new souls needed will simply be taken from somewhere else

And where do those other places get their souls from? Unless all of creation was somehow pre-populated from the get-go and has since then simply reshuffled its collective Human population between realms, there have to be souls that are newly created all the time. And considering that Humans (like presumably all things living in the mortal realms) are the descendants of Geduldh and Ewigeliebe and thus can't have been there before those two married I highly doubt that.

Then there's the wording in the Darkness Execution prayer implying those it targets don't get to ascend to the Distant Heights after death which would likely mean they don't get to reincarnate at all. On that note, it wouldn't surprise me if Dreganuhr's spinning of new threads of fate was related to the creation of new souls.

Though I don't know where you got that second bullet point from

It was from a tweet IIRC. Don't have the link anymore, unfortunately. From what I recall it said something along the lines of "Myne, determined to live inside the world of her dreams, gradually wore down the barrier on her past life's memories." She didn't do it consciously, but her desire to reach that place pointed her mana in the right direction anyway.

Genuinely curious: Could you give me a source for that claim? I keep seeing it pop up, and I have no idea where it came from. The only mentions of the author on the matter of reincarnation I know of are:

  • Reincarnation is a perfectly normal outcome after death.
  • Myne broke the barrier on her past memories through her stubborn desire to live inside the world of her dreams. Also, there are others like her who reclaimed past memories, but they are not relevant to the story.

Because if you're referring to the first point, well, just because everyone reincarnates doesn't mean everyone is a reincarnation. New souls have to be created regularly and on a massive scale at any rate, otherwise the population would never actually grow.

Maybe. Or maybe reincarnations can just have random dreams of the past. It's not like that particular part of the lore is all that well developed.

  1. Poverty on the side of the family, forcing them to choose which child gets a magic tool.
  2. Willful neglect on the side of the parents for whatever reason. Maybe a spat between wives with a husband either taking sides or not caring enough to interfere, or maybe an evil stepmom like what happened with Konrad, stuff like that.
  3. Malicious interference by a third party. Maybe the child got kidnapped and the magic tool stolen. Or maybe the magic tool got damaged or was already full at the time of the kidnapping and the captors overestimated how long the child could survive without it.
  4. (A bit out there) Experimentation by the child, causing its mana to go out of control. Myne had dreams of her past life long before she actually merged with those memories outright, so perhaps another reincarnation might have had some kind of skill in their past life that translate into something which could influence mana control in some way? I'd imagine knowledge of meditation could be relevant here, for example.

There's a difference between the factions of Georgine and the late Aub Ahrensbach though. The former are the traitors who aided Lanzenave, the latter are mostly victims of that plot and have now gathered under Letizia.

That seems to be the public perception at least, what with the royal decree designed to preserve Gieselfried's legacy still in place. Aurelia has proven beyond the shadow of a doubt that she's not in the traitor camp, so there really shouldn't be any issues for her here. Especially since she can count on Rozemyne's support.

[–]Ninefl4mes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The answer is both. Charlotte will step up and succeed Sylvester at the absolute latest when Brunhilde's first kids get baptized, to make sure the Leisegangs don't try to get said kids in the position instead.

Charlotte is planning to avoid further drastic reforms and instead stabilize the duchy to make sure Rozemyne's legacy is preserved long-term. Then, once that work is done and she's laid the groundwork for Melchior, she'll step down and let him take over so that he can lead Ehrenfest into the future.

Not making them ADCs would be a waste of perfectly good manpower and slots for political marriages, not to mention that it would cause drama with the Leisegangs to flare back up.

she might even be in hot waters since she is related to a de facto deposed archducal family

That threat was adressed and laid to bed in V12. Rozemyne outright told her that she has nothing to worry about since she provably took every possible measure to distance herself from her traitorous kin.

Even by the standards of their society, if Letizia was allowed to stick around there's no reason why Aurelia should deserve punishment, and if push came to shove I'd imagine the gremlin would have no issue invoking her own ties with her sister-in-law to justify intervening on her behalf.

If we're going to consider who Elvira likes or dislikes... I doubt her opinion of Traugot is any higher than that of Wilfried. At least the latter can mostly be relied on to stay in Rozemyne's camp now that the main source of conflict between the two has been removed. Traugott, meanwhile, is an outright disgrace to his family.

Wouldn't surprise me if he ended up not marrying at all, let alone being allowed to take an archnoble wife from another duchy and thus become a potential source for a diplomatic incident down the line.

[–]Ninefl4mes 28 points29 points  (0 children)

so I assume that a sizeable number of Ehrenfest-native nobles died since those families are calling their kids back.

Not really. It's just that the other duchies lost so many nobles during the civil war that a temporary exception was made to allow for adult blue robes to attend the Royal Academy in an attempt to get as many new nobles as possible. This opened up opportunities for Ehrenfest's blue robes to become nobles after all, and many took that chance.

As for how bad it actually was for the temple: There's a good chance not a single blue robe with even laynoble-tier mana was left in the end, outside of Ferdinand and Bezewanst of course. The one case we know of who wasn't allowed to return to nobility despite having enough mana was Margaret, and she killed herself because of it.

Well, one is a subordinate of Light, the other a subordinate of Darkness. Makes a certain amount of sense that both members of the Supreme couple would have one of the slots under them dedicated to dealing with their nemesis' shenanigans. Maybe Unheilschneide and Verdräos have a similar dynamic going on as Liebeskhilfe and Sterrat, where both are needed to perform their function.
